Are you sure about that cut-off date? Mine was shipped the 21st!

No one is sure what will happen. Dell has not announce anything so I wouldn't worry just yet. We'll all have to wait to see what announcement they give.

Maybe Dell can work out a deal with Microsoft to offer it free for the Axim users - 'cause we're so loyal and all......

You don't need to run the emulator from the IDE. You can drag and drop the Pocket PC ROM image (PPC_2003_WWE_VIRTUAL_RADIO.bin, do a search for it cause I forget where it is located on your comp) right into the Emulator.exe program (located in c:\program files\windows ce tools\common\platman\bin\)

PPC-03, is it asking too much?

I have used pocket computers since the Psion 3 series. I started with Microsoft back with a Philips Velo1. I had a LG Phenom Express with CE-3 Professional and have worked through iPaq, Toshibas and now my Ax.
With PPC03 coming am I asking too much for Microsoft to include Pocket Access and a version of Word that KEEPS it's formats?
For the love of God is it so hard to add Access to the damn OS?
I would gladly sacrifice Media Player for it, especially since I use another media player, ;)
Am I the ONLY PPC user that would like to have Access?
...probably not

As a long time Access user, I too was dismayed to find that MS failed to include a compatible version of Access for the PPC. However, there are several third party applications that are compatible.

My personal favorite is Sprint DB Pro. It has a very intuitive user interface, and meets my needs quite well. I'm sorry that I don't remember how much I paid for it, but I purchased it through Handango. You might want to download a trial version and see if it suits you.

Now that IS an idea. PPC programable per customer request. Especially a company like Dell.
"Yes I'll take the X5 with 64 meg, extra battery and case as for the OS I'll take Word, Excel, Access, Pocket Viewer"
Like ordering a REAL computer...Hmmmmmm

I agree... the ROM should ONLY come loaded with the basic Kernel and Shell, to start, and then the programs that you want should be loaded up into storage, on demand even. Serisouly why should standalone applications have to be burned into ROM?

Oh well, thats the way technology works.
Dude, there ain't nothing better than the AX! (Except that one for another $400!)

Think of it this way - you received 11 more days of 'love-making' with your AX instead!

That and you really don't know if that is the cut off date. Dell has said nothing about this. Remember these are all rumors... Save your "" till after the official news....

Ppc2003 and rom update

I have used my axim for around a month and it seems to work great. Haven't updated the rom but am more interested in ppc2003. Do you have to have the new rom update loaded before ppc2003 or are they independent of each other.

I doubt it. These are really not updates, but total flashing of the ROM...

Ok. I am going crazy. I have tried to start the PPC2k3 sdk via my IDE (using one of the tools that came with 2k2 sdk) and by dropping the rom onto the executable. When I run from my IDE it comes up with the following message "Platform Manager was unable to connect to the device. Please check your startup server and transport settings and try again." Whwn I run it drag-and-drop, it restarts my PC. Also, when I installed it, I got an illegal operation message and had to stop the script program thing. Sorry I cant be more specific. Please help me! Running winXP home.
