backing up Program install files to SD...

I'm having a LOT of crashes lately on my X5 advanced. The last time this happened I had to hard reset. luckily, I was at home and could reinstall my programs through activesync... Next time I may not be so lucky...

Somone on here mentioned backing up all the installs to an SD card incase of a force hard-reset while away from their PC. I have several programs (RealPlayer, TCPMP, and even my WiFi drivers, to name a few) that are all packaged in nice little EXEs that install through activesync...

Is there a way to extract the PPC MSI file so I can copy it to an SD card? if so, how?

You can either make a folder on the SD card and save all the .cab files in it, then you have the backups, but I would say get SPRITE BACKUP on your PDA, set it all up how you want (install apps games etc) then do a FULL backup, if you have to hard reset your be sorted!

You can look for the CAB files of each program you have installed via ActiveSync in the Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync folder. Each .exe you install via ActiveSync will have its own folder. Inside each folder will be a CAB file you can move to your SD card.

But I agree with the recommendation of Sprite Backup. It will backup your entire device and restore with a few taps, even away from the PC.

Let me put in a plug for SPB Backup. It was just updated to v1.5 and will allow all the same backup options of Sprite, but will also allow you to backup BIS, SD, and CF cards. If you have programs installed into BIS, a hard reset will wipe them out (I think). With SPB Backup you can back all that up to a SD or CF card and restore if needed. Definately worth a look!

Just downloaded and installed SPB Backup, it says it backe dup everything, havn't tried a hard-reset yet to test it.

What's the diff between free and pay sPB Backup? will the free one not restore backups or only ccreate X before the trial runs out or soemthing? or does it just lack some features of the pay one?
