A problem with the document was encountered and it cannot be opened. - error message

I have an Axim 51v and when I try to open a Word document that was saved on my PC and sync'd to the Axim, a Word Mobile 5.0 screen pops up that reads, "A problem with the document was encountered and it cannot be opened." I am able open other Word documents on the Axim, and the file that I cannot open on the Axim, can be opened fine on my PC. This happens with numerous Word files on my Axim. I searched for similar problems on the web and only a few sites mention it and suggest that possibly a template file is missing. My template folder is empty but even if the problem was the missing template, why would some Word files open and some not open? I called Dell but they wanted about $90 to give me the answer and since I bought this less than a month ago and I'm just using it for the first time, I feel that it ought to work right without me having to pay another $90. I tried a hard reboot and sync'd it with the PC again but am still having the same problem. Has anyone had a similar problem? Do I need templates? Where can I find them? I haven't had any luck locating them on the web either.

I've had the same problem and have not found an actual solution. My 'workaround' is to save documents on the PC that I plan to use on the PPC as a rtf file.

BTW, I'm using M$ Office 2000. Which version are you using?

For other members, if you do not have this problem, which version of Word are you using?

I 'v seen this also, its because of using formatting that is not part of the mobile addition, this includes macros.. Maybe even teplates. That is why saving as rtf fixes them. That would remove the unsupported formatting.

I created a doc on my ax and copied it to my desk top anduse that to start docs I want to keep on the ax.
I have issues

Mobile Word

I too HAD the same problem. Yesterday I called Dell support and they told me the solution. They said I had to purchase ClearVue Suite from them if I had not already done so. I just got my new x51v a week and a half ago, but I did not order ClearVue. They told me I should have a ClearVue CD in my box if I had ordered it. Well I did not. I went on the internet to see how much it was, But there were different ones to order. To make a long story short, I decided to put the Getting Started CD that came with my ax, and ClearVue Suite was on it. I am not sure if it is a trial or not. I installed it, and it solved the problem of opening Word documents that I created on my PC, and then synched to my PDA. I hope this will help. By the way, this is my first time repyling to a thread on aximsite!

Welcome and thanks for the info. I am waiting on my replacement and will look for ClearVue on the CD when it comes.

I just encountered this problem on my HTC TyTN when trying to create a new word document. After reading this thread I remembered that I had deleted some "Template" files from My Documents. Luckily, Resco explorer has a recycle bin... I recovered all the templates, and now it works fine .

Palm M100 -> Handspring Treo 90 -> Sony CLIE NR70v -> Dell Axim X3 400MHz -> Dell Axim X50v -> Dell Axim X51v -> Nothing

Motorola RAZR V3 -> Nokia N73 -> Samsung i320n -> Nokia N73 -> HTC TyTN - > Palm Treo 680

I used to have this problem. There is a difference in the file format between Word Mobile in 2003 & WM5. By the way, I use Office 2007, and the only problem that I have is that the default format (.docx) cannot be read by Word Mobile
