Aximsitewifiicon Can't access any network drive

Hi,

After having banged my head against the wall I decided to stop before my skull shatters and post a message here instead.

My X30-High is connected to my personal network via Wifi.
I can browse websites (both internet's and internal to my network).
I can ping all the machines on my network.
I can stream internet radios, etc etc ...

However I can't mount any of my shared drives, be it shared drives defined on my Windows-XP machines or Samba drive defined on my LaCie network hard-disk.
I tried with File-Explorer (got "Network path not found"), Total-Commander (Error 53), Net-Use (No visible shares).
When trying to explore the network neighbourhood with Net-Use I see nothing either.
But again note that I can ping all the machines, I can connect to the WebServer running on the LaCie network hard-disk. This is weird.

All the other computers in the Network, connected either via Ethernet or via Wifi, can access all the shared drives of all the other computers.

What am I doing wrong ?

I found out about this guide : http://wifi.aximsite.com/network.html.

It says that the name of my AXIM must not contain any Underline character ...

Ehe, that could be the reason of my issues.
I will try tonight back at home and will let you know how it goes.

In file explorer make sure you use two slashes before the name of the shared computer ie "\\Computer Name" or you get the path not found error. And make sure you type in the correct name for the shared computer it is case sensitive.

Unfortunately none of this works.
Tonight I renamed my pocket PC to three capital letters "PPR" and also shortened the description just to "Axim".
I still get an error when trying to access any share, for example : "Error 58 while connecting!" with Total Commander when I try to acces my NAS.

When I try to connect to a shared drive of my XP computer I get an Error 53 instead.

All the rest works fine, I can ping the other hosts, and they can ping me.

I resetted the pocketPC with the backside reset button and retried still without any chance.

I am completely stuck.:rolling:

Hi,

To get access to my XP shared drives, I had to turn windows file & printer sharing on and make sure TCP/IP was bound. Check network connections/advanced/advanced settings/local area connections and make sure tcp/ip is checked under windows file & printer sharing.

Hi,

All of this is already done.
My PocketPC can't access any of the shared drives available on my computers or my LaCie NAS. Meanwhile all these guys can share each other's drives happily.

I have stopped and restarted my router without improving anything.

Do you have a firewall in place? If so try disabling it.

Stop the press !
:)
I can now access the shared drive of my XP machines !
I just need to use the hostname instead of the IP address.

This syntax works : \\hostname\share :approve:
But not this :
\\192.168.0.20\share :rolling:

I did not try to access my XP machines with the hostname until now, because when I was trying to access my LaCie NAS in this way it did not work. I thought it would work better with the numerical IP addresses in any case. It turns out to be the opposite...

Now I need to also access my NAS.... I tried both syntaxes without any success.

Something else :

Using the NetUse software on the PocketPC I can't see anything when I try to browse my domain. The PocketPC stays busy for a while then displays me an empty list of things when I try to do so.

However using the same program I can mount successfully shares from my XP computers by giving it the full path, but I can't mount my LaCie NAS.

you may have to mount the lacie on an xp box, assign it drive letter and share that drive. you should then be able to access it from the ax.

This idea will probably work (to be tested at home tonight). This will will be my fallback for the time being.

But this is not ideal because it requires one of the XP computers to be turned on.

I think there is still something a bit wrong with my pocket PC anyway because it can't browse the workgroup. This might related to my issue of not being able to access my NAS. If this issue could be solved then I have the feeling that everything would work.

Has anyone ever been able to browse a workgroup from a pocketPC ?

Unfortunately, while the idea sounded interesting, Windows XP does not let me share a drive which itself is already a network Drive.

I think I have run out of ideas. Resco Explorer has a network browser that they say works with pocket pc2002. You should have a trial of it on your cd. It's interface is a little different from the other free explorers so maybe it will work.

It is possible to name the network drive? if it had a ms-network name, maybe you could get to it that way. Good Luck.
