Aximsitemobileicon BuiltIn-Storage Issue

Hello,

Come across a strange situation with my Axim x50v. Just installed A05 ROM and was hoping to start from a nice clean PDA. As the BIS isn't wiped on a ROM Flash, I did a manual delete to clear it out. However one directory won't clear and after insepcting it's contents I was rather troubled.

There are duplicate filenames in the same directory and no matter what I try I can't get rid of them. (I've used Resco to change the file permissions - but the changes don't stick) What I think has happen with the File Allocation Table is screwed for the BIS - now my question to you all is:

How the chuff do you properly format the BuiltIn-Storage? (Tried Format via Resco - not allowed)

I don't think this is causing me problems - but from past experiences I'd rather get this fixed than ignore it.

Cheers
Anders

If Resco won't do it, you might try another tool (e.g.: SKTools, MemMaid, ...) to see if it is possible and if not you might contact Dell if the X50V is still under warranty.

Okay, tried both MemMain and SKTools to no avail. I've had my x50v for a couple of years now so warrenty isn't an option. I'll keep thinking and looking and if I find anything I'll share it with the group.

However if anyone else has any other good suggestions - please do share.

Thanks!

This is a crazy idea and a dangerous one too, so don't take it seriously. I would upgrade the X50V from 2003se to WM5 then go back to 2003se. Just a thought, I don't even think it's worth the trouble.

I like crazy ideas - however I'm not sure why it's a dangerous one?

Also wouldn't I have to pay for WM5, only then not to use it?

Everytime you upgrade to a new OS or do a ROM upgrade, however slight, there is a possibility of bricking your device.

That's why it's a crazy idea.
However, it might just work.

p.s. that said, stick to 2003se, it's more stable with the X50.

Instead of paying for a new OS, you could try updating to a different language and then return SHould achieve the saem thing - I believe.

That being said, it is true you are taking a chance each and everytime you update the ROM. I'm not sure I'd want to update out of warranty.

I am surprised by this. SK Tools will format BIS. Did you try that?

Yup - Just re-tried SKTools. (v3.0.61.0)

Went into Maintenace - Storage Cards - Selected BIS and then the action format. It returns the message of 0. (I do love SKTools processing result messages - a proper programmer came up with them - who needs more than 0 for false and 1 for true?! ;) )

Corrupt folder still there.

Tried Empty Action - everything but Corrupt folder cleared off.

There is a certain amount of risk here, proceed only if you accept them fully and There is no warranty of any kind express or implied in this advice.

I'm afraid you have really little choice. I had a similar problem on a X5 and then a X50v too. Hence my previous hint of the
"Absolute Noodlebaker Contest II"

You can find WM5 upgrade for x50v here:

Follow the instructions carefully. If you don't understand them. Talk to me.
This will work and bring your X50 to WM5, after which, you can use Dell's downgrade utility to go back to WM2003SE.
