Minimo advice

Hey everybody,

Despite having my x50v for a year now, I'm still trying to figure out how to get it running smoothly. I'm a huge fan of Firefox and decided to try using Minimo for the Axim but everything is running terribly slow and it doesn't respond well. Is anyone using Minimo as their browser? If so, any advice?

Thanks a lot.

I just installed the newer version, its faster but still very slow, often leading to freeze ups.

I think the program itself needs some work to reduce its size. I really like mozilla and hope that soon this browser is the only one i use on my axim.

I guess I will just unistall minimo and wait until a better version comes out. I'm not a techie enough to get it to work properly. Thanks for letting me know that it wasn't just a problem on my end.

Yes because it has the least amount of user tweaking and installing.
It cant access as much adavnced content though.

But i still use it as my default, b/c its by far faster at starting and its a lot more stable than other ppc browsers.

If you compress the minimo executable with upx4ppc it will become faster to load. There are instructions here on aximsite, I think.

Thanks for the advice!

I installed UPX4PPC and then reinstalled Minimo. It's running slightly better but not much. I think the compression didn't work properly. Anyhow, short version is at least I have something to try. Thanks again. If you notice a specific thread that could help me out, please let me know.

It doesnt sound like u did it properly...

Open the upx4ppc program and then open the individual dll or exe file in the program. The program compresses each file, itself. It takes a little bit, too.

Is there any indication that the program is running? I get the notice that it may take between 1 to 5 minutes to complete and then immediatly it tells me it's done and the file has remained the same size. I'm only choosing to compress the .exe file.

I did this a while back. I'm not sure if it was the .exe or the .dll file I compressed. See which one is huge and compress that one.

It does take about five minutes if you select 'maximum' compression.

I've read the link you gave. Thanks. However, still can't compress the file. I've even tried reinstalling minimo and upx4ppc. I follow the steps that you guys gave me as well as the installation instructions. I choose the .exe file for minimo, maximum compression and then start. The message pops up saying it will take 1 to 5 minutes and asking if I wish to continue. I choose yes. It then begins and within 1 second it pops up saying the file is done. original file size 7.17 and final size 7.17. So far all I've managed to do is make myself feel pretty stupid. The answer will probably be so obvious it's going to hurt.

I had the same problem for a while but managed to fix it. I don't remember what I did, though. Sorry. :)
