You can install OneNote Mobile on a Windows Mobile 2003 device manually, I've written a HOWTO (but it's in german)
In Short:
1. get cabwiz.exe, cabwiz.ddf, makecab.exe from Windows Mobile SDK (these files are included in serval versions of the SDK)
2. get http://www.tomhost.de/gate/downloads...te_on_2003.zip
3. copy/unpack all into a new folder
4. copy OneNoteMobile.cab from your Office Installation Path/Office12/1031 to this folder
5. run convert.bat, confirm to write some stuff (see service.reg) into your reg
6. copy OneNoteMobile.cab to your PDA und run it
I had trouble the first time I tried to install it, but it worked fine the second time. I don't know what happened, but I'm OK with it suddenly working! :)

To those of you who have successfully installed ON2007 on your WM2003 devices: do you like the application?
Can you tell me if it works well enough with Outlook-2003 on the desktop or do I really need to pay $100+ to "upgrade" to OL-2007 to get the functionality?
And if so, should I be worried about the posts I've been seeing elsewhere about incompatability issues mixing MS-2007 apps into an MS-Office-2003 installation? I REALLY would be unhappy to have to pay $350+ to upgrade my whole Office suite just to be able to get use from a little program like OneNote....

i have microsoft office 2007, and have been looking for a sync between notes on notebook and axim 51v.
i found out about OneNoteMobile here.
so how do i get it to install on the axim? using vista
onenote was unticked in mobile device center, changed that.
then followed the instructions:
Manual installation
If you previously missed or dismissed the automatic installation prompt, you can install OneNote Mobile manually by doing the following:
Start Office OneNote 2007.
Connect your mobile device to your computer. If you have a smartphone, connect it with a USB cable or over a wireless connection, such as a Bluetooth-enabled or infrared connection.
If your Pocket PC comes with a cradle, cradle the device.
In OneNote, on the Tools menu, click Options.
In the Options dialog box, in the Category list, click OneNote Mobile, and then click Install OneNote Mobile.
Follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete the installation.
In the Options dialog box, in the Category list, click OneNote Mobile, and then click Install OneNote Mobile. but that option isnt available
I really like OneNote 2007 on my home system, and want very much to sync with my Axim X3i (WM2003). Before I attempt the steps above to get it installed, though, I wanted to know what impact this will have on my second machine.
I sync to a machine at work, and we do not use OneNote (yet -- I'm trying to get 'the man' to go there).
Does anyone know what will happen to my sync if I sync OneNote on one machine, and just regular 'notes' on the other?
1. get cabwiz.exe, cabwiz.ddf, makecab.exe from Windows Mobile SDK (these files are included in serval versions of the SDK)
I followed the instructions, but was unable to make this work for me. I received an error installing the SDK regarding the lack of eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0. Looking at this download, it's huge. I wanted to avoid if possible. Is this necessary? The three files you mention above were included in my installation of the SDK without eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0, so I thought I was okay.
However, it did not work for me. I got an error that "OneNoteMobile.inf contains DirIDs, which are not supported".
When all is said and done, I do not have a .cab file in the directory (nothing to copy to my Axim and install).
I also tried this method and got the "DirID" Error.
After some research I got the reason for it.
The error is triggered by the %CE1%, %CE2%, %CE11% style variables.
The problem is, normally you don't know what to fill in here.
But I got the info on this site: http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/a_ppc/index.html
If you have a german version, you have to look for the actual names to fill in.
I don't know if I had to do this, but I outlined the replacements values with "
After that, it compiled and now it works like a charm on my HP iPAQ 2200.
The only thing is I didn't get how to insert pictures, since I have no cam in my PDA. :(
I edited the .inf file, replacing the DirID variables with the correct paths, and it worked like a charm.
I would add that in addition to the %CE#% variables, I needed to replace the AppName and InstallDir varialbles, as well. These are both found under the [CEStrings] section - but I needed to replace them in the rest of the .inf file. Perhaps this is because I downloaded an old version of the SDK (my cabwiz.exe file is version 3.7.0.3083 - not sure how old that is).
But, thanks to you all, I can now run OneNoteMobile on my Dell Axim X3i!!
Oh, and to the person who can't find the OneNoteMobile.cab -- while the instructions in this thread say to look in the "Office Installation Path/Office12/1031" directory, I believe this is a typo. In my case, it was in the Install Path/Office12/1033 directory. Hope this helps you find it.

It depends on your language version of Office. For the german version, 1031 is the right directoy.
If you search the needed files, go to http://www.sundialsoft.freeserve.co.uk/sddocs013.htm. At the bottom of this page, you'll find a ZIP ... i hope this works, but i thinks its better to use the actual versions from the SDK. I used the SDK which is included in VS2005.
I followed the manual install instructions and now have ONM installed on my Axim X30 with WM2003se, which is great. How do I get it to sync with my PC?
It seems my desktop OneNote doesn't recognize that the mobile version is installed.
