The standalone flash player link i was given (shot me to Adobe) refused to install on my X30 - "this cab file is not a valid win ce install". The flash player i have installed now is a plugin for pocket ie, which is really limiting. i tried making a basic flash embed, but it worked on everything but the pda.

is there any util or player besides adobe's official which will actually work? :\

Adobe's is the only one. It's their copyrighted technology.

Make sure you have any existing version of Flash player removed. You might remove the plugin also.

I've installed Flash 7 on my X30 MANY times, both to RAM and BIS (not SD) and it works flawlessly.

I've got the flash 7 official plugin for IE, but the standalone player simply will not install.

any ideas?

Well, there is a program by Ant Mobile. It requires the Adobe plugin but it works for offline flash files. Look in myPDA for the link. It's towards the bottom under previously installed software.
