Dear Sir:

I read Chris Leckness review of Windows Mobile 2003. But in page 5 the processor with Windows Mobile 2003 is listed as a Intel PXA255. Are the Axim being shipped with this processor? The first reviews of the Axim stated that the processor was Intel PXA250 and I was waiting for them to switch to the newer processor to get one with it. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Victor,

Welcome to the site.

All the new axims ship with a pxa 255 processor. The moment intel stopped producing the old pxa250 dell had to switch the processor, I think this is about 2 months ago....

so to awnser you question, the axim comes with a pxa255, but somethimes you have to upgrade your rom to see it as such...

Some Axim owners who swap their units (for various reasons) out have ended up with a PXA 255 or a PXA 250. It's not a guarantee that you would end up with the newer processor if you have to exchange your unit at this time. I've got one of the original units which I received on 12-3-03. Oh well, it works well and that's not such a bad thing.

Chris, I have a question for you, Did you try out Microsoft Reader? I read on another site that Microsoft Reader 2003 will not read books downloaded from Blackmask.com. They said that it would show up in the library and the title page would show up, and the text was present because they could tap on it to look words up, but invisible.

I bought 3rd-Party(new, not refurb) after the 23rd. Unit was made on the 26. So what would be my options?

BTW, I thought that the new ones had 255's, mine has a 250 after the ROM upgrade.

I read this whole thread and the review. I did not see an answer to the question "is windows 2000 supported" In the review every windows os seems to be supported exept 3.1, 95, 2000. Is this going to be a problem or what?

Just got my Ax the other day, it is a refurb so came with PPC2002 .

Been sorting through this whole thread, the links to get the 2003 CD don't work and I can't find any mention of it on Dell's website.

Anyone got a link that works or phone number to call--- is it Dell sales, or support, etc. etc.

Also could not find anything on a ROM upgrade either on Dell site. Does that have to be done in conjunction with upgrade to WM2003? I'm confused with all the ROM updates--!!!

Has anyone heard anything different than the last post on 8/7 saying the CD is not shipping until 9/24??

Thanks for any clarification on all this!!!

Just to make things more interesting....I originally ordered the Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade on June 26th. I was told then that it would ship on July 25th. A couple of days before that I received an email from Dell saying it would be delayed until August 22nd. Today I just got another email saying it is delayed again until October 1.

This really gets my goat....how come the European customers are getting the CD's but us here in North America aren't?? I'm perplexed.

Dell does have a knowledgebase post that they say will be updated when the part is available for ordering.
