welcome to the forum alfa, i doubt you'll qualify because the first thing they asked from me was my account/customer number and i had to verify everything. So unless you ordered from dell within 30 days you can get it.. otherwise you might have to purchase the upgrade
you can always try though..

This is correct. They won't even talk to you if you you don't have a customer number/order number. I'm not sure about the international orders, but I'd login to your Dell account and use the number where it says Customer Care. That may send you to a general line, but use the menu to go to Sales.
Tell sales you need Customer Care and ask for the extension in case you get disconnected. Sales wants nothing more than to get rid of you because you're wasting their time since you're not ordering anything
BTW I accidentally ended up talking to the Home Customer Care on one call, and she wasn't nearly as helpful as the Business representative. You HAVE to call the right department for them to be able to access your record, but in the future if you have a choice order from Business.

I had purchased my Axim 300 on 06/17/2003, it shipped on 6/20/2003 and still have not received it. I called Dell and they said the are having problems with Pocket PC2003 software. She said she was going to fill out a form for me and that was it. She said I might receive the software in a month.
How did you all get ship dates?

You guys are great...first you helped me decide to get an Axim over a Compaq...then you helped me choose my case and screen protector which I should be ordering tomorrow (Bellagio Case and Brando Workshop protector)....now you helped me get a free upgrade thanks to the info on this thread. It took me 2 transfers and 25 minutes on the phone but I now have my order number and a shipping date of July 25. The phone number that I used was 800-879-3355 ext66966. The woman that answered said there wasn't a deal going for a free upgrade when I purchased my Axim, but I explained how I read on their forum that if purchased within the last 30 days the person would be eligible. After 10 minutes on hold she came back and asked if I'd like it shipped to the same shipping address and gave me my order number. So I guess I'll have some questions once I receive it....if you guys wouldn't mind :D

LOL, I called, a few times, first few people didn't know what I was talking about, like they never heard of the word free before, Then I finally got a nice lady, she didn't know what Microsoft Moble 2003 was...but still nice. I explained that a new OS for the Axim came out yesterday, and she said she remembers somthing like that, (but was nice about it) so she put me on hold and went to ask someone.....few min later she said ok yes you are entiteled to a free upgrade (finally someone who knows the word free!!) and she said she would send me to a Axim tech to get it for me, few min later, all I got was recordings!!! I didn't call back cause I got bored of it, I will tomorrow.....

Thanks to the forum & Michael_j. Called Dell at 800-879-3355 ext66966. I gave part number and order number and had confirmation number in 3 minutes as order was within last 30 days. 10 minutes later it was on My Dell Orders as pending. Ship by August 5th.

Here is part of an e-mail they sent in reply of my e-mail requesting information on the upgrade.
Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.
Please be advised that from June 23, 2003, onwards all Axim X5 units ordered will ship out with the new Pocket PC 2003 operating system installed. I apologize, but as you have ordered your Axim prior to May 23, 2003, we are unable to submit a request for the free upgrade. We can only issue free updates to orders placed between May 23, 2003 and June 22, 2003.

It seems the only way to get the upgrade to is to return the Axim within your 30 day return period, then order a new one. So Dell really screwed us on this one!!! The price of the Axim is more than when I bought it originally...so I'm paying more for the upgrade and what else? Not acceptable!!!! Dell really sucks...they need to take care of thier customers better. I tried to get Customer Care to send a cd but they can't...and the sales department wants your credit card. Sounds like Dell is Skitzo on this one...saying one thing and doing another. I might upgrade eventually...but more than likely not because they are jerkin me around and everything is working fine. I don't want to spend $30 on something I deserve and qualify for...because a huge, unorganized company can't figure out top from bottom.

Keep Trying!
Satteldog...as frustrated as you are, keep trying. It does work, you just have to get to the right person. I took me 45 minutes of being on hold and transferred, but finally after that lady that was helping me---who I could understand about 5% of what she was saying---checked with her supervisor we got everything squared away.

After several frustrating calls I concluded that I would just buy the CD, even though I believed that the - "return my week old unit and purchase a new Axim" routine was designed to get me to do just that- buy the CD!
So I called sales and when I learned that new CD orders were shipping end of July (!), and that new Axims with OS 2003 would go out in a week, well...
So I'm awaiting a new Axim and will return my unit when it arrives. I could've avoided laying out new money but that would've required me to send my unit back first and I can't be without it now. Also, with the current promotion my new unit is 10% cheaper!
BTW, the sales rep explained why he believes Dell won't just send out the new OS on CD rather than have us all go through this ridiculous swap. Dell has to buy the OS in its most expensive form, shrinkwrapped individual unit, to mail it to us, whereas installed on a new Axim the price to Dell is very much lower.
But, wouldn't the shipping costs at least equal their cost from MS on PPC 2003?
