I would assume that it is the order date. Check out the Axim support forums on Dell's site and see what they are saying there. Alternatively just call Dell CS and see what they have to say.

Uhmn... no, an 800 call from Europe isnt free... its only free in.. US, US/Canada, Canada or the State its setup in... All depends on how the 800 # is provisioned.

Call Dell and find out. If no one has answered, it seems a safe assumption that means that no one knows and any answer would only be speculation.

just got off the phone with Dell Customer Care after having followed the instructions from previous posts to get the PPC 2003 free upgrade.
bought my Axim on 6/2/2003. Initially, I wasn't sure what the story was surrounding the upgrade since the first posts indicated it wouldn't be provided for free. I decided to go ahead and purchase it, but later cancelled the order once I heard it would be provided free.
Called today to order the free upgrade and the first representative I spoke with kept telling me that I needed to order the upgrade within 30 days of purchasing my Axim. Since I hadn't, she told me I'd have to pay for it. I kept explaining to her that it wasn't clear what the policy was until recently (and I'd argue its still not 100% clear). I explained that I'd purchased the upgrade within the 30 day period, but was told the upgrade would be free and decided to cancel the order. She was adamant about not giving me the upgrade and kept telling me she'd be fired if she did. After repeatedly asking to speak with her supervisor, she finally agreed to transfer me and then HUNG UP ON ME!!!
I called back a few minutes later and the next person I got processed the FREE upgrade order in 2 minutes with no hassles, arguments, etc.
hmm... seems things aren't clear at Dell either. Good luck getting your upgrade and I can only suggest you keep trying if you encounter resistance.

My axim order date was 5/28. Called Dell today as instructions in this thread talk about. Was on hold many times while the person worked on my order, but it was taken care of flawlessly and I have an order number. Now to just see if it goes all the way to in my hands or not. Not that I dont trust Dells order system... ;-)

All tech support call centers are messy, believe me I work for one. You are always rolling a dice whenever you call up. Just hope you don't get a newbie, but someone who has worked there for awhile and knows things. Keep trying back until you get a nice person. You gotta watch out though, if they see a bunch of notes with your account saying you've called a bunch and tried the same thing over and over, they may be relunctant to helping you out. Then again, you never know.

I emailed Dell customer support, and I now have a 'case number' for my free upgrade. The guy who emailed me back says that the upgrades should ship around July 20.
We'll see, I guess...

PPC 2003 Free Upgrade
I just got off the phone with Dell Customer Care. The very first person I spoke with knew exactly what I was looking for and didn't give me any trouble at all. The whole call took less than a minute.
Supposedly, I should have my upgrade CD in 3-5 days. Somehow (from what I've read here) I doubt that, but I'm hopeful. With some luck maybe Dell will have a patch ready by the time the CD arrives...
