Hi Happy & Doug - not been around for a while - been away....but now I'm back!
I can confirm that my credit card has been re-imbursed the postage - so at least that's finally sorted - how about you guys?

Bernie! All's gone quiet on the 2003 front now we have it and I got reimbursed the postage as well! Unfortunately, I got so hacked off with Dell's support, especially for the TrueMobile Bluetooth CF card, I sold my Axim to a "very lucky" chap and now own a Ipaq 1940 (integrated BT, half the size, pretty nice bit of kit).
I still visit this site daily though, pity HP have not got a site like it. They have a poor excuse for a forum site. Oh well!
Did you go anywhere nice?
Regards, speak again soon
Doug

Sorry to hear you had no luck with Dell
We went to Northumbria (lovely sea views from our cottage and frequent digging with kids on the beach) - then on to the Lake District....
Anyway glad you still check out the site!

All I can do is laugh - the Ipaq 19xx / 22xx ranges have the same SD card problems as the Axim!
So speaks the voice of BS, sorry reason...
Anyway, my Ax is flying with WM2003. Made a number of Tosh e740 users angry at work (they can't get the upgrade) and the Ipaq 5455 users were narked as their upgrade still isn't available!
(Axim info deleted... :crooked: )

Hi Happy and Bernie,
By the time November comes along, I will have gone through another three PDA's at least!
I don't really care about the SD card although this has a SDIO slot, if that means anything. I have a 256Mb Panasonic card in mine and it appears to work okay, at least for the things I want to do.
Don't get me wrong, I liked the Axim alot, I just got very frustrated with Dell Customer Care and I use the word CARE very lightly! I emailed them a week ago about how to transfer ownership of the machine and lo and behold, absolutely no reply whatsoever! As I said, I got my shipping back but only after threatening some sort of legal action. Not that this made a difference, at least it made me feel better!
From what I read, not only here but on the Dell Community Site, people still can't set up Bluetooth even with the updated file so I can't be any worse off, in fact, I'm better off as my machine ActiveSyncs beautifully. Also although size is not an issue, the Ipaq is half the size of the Axim and all I've lost is the CF card slot that was taken up by a non working BlueMobile card anyway. That's now built in.
I'm not trying to sell you my machine, I've had issues before with HP Customer Support as well but as it stands at the moment, I feel a bit happier. The kids aren't though as they have no food etc etc...... but that's another story.
Northumbria and the Lake District are beautiful, Bernie, as is the middle of Dartmoor. We have a nice country, apart from getting no discount vouchers with our goods........ but again that's another story.......
Regards, speak soon.
I will eventually come back to the Axim no doubt, I change like the wind, expensive hobby but there it is.

The Cheesecake Postscript...
Bernie / Doug
(Please feel free to start laughing now)
To cut a long story short:
* I had my Axim stolen (with a 512mb SD card inside)
* Direct Line (bless 'em!) said ok, we'll replace it with..
An Ipaq 2210!!!!
Turns up tomorrow. Anyone want some Axim bits? (Cradle with PSU, extra PSU, foldable keyboard (!), thumb keyboard, 2 x USB leads...)
BTW - time the Ipaq mob had a site like this, yes?!

Hi Happy,
Nice to hear from you again but not in these circumstances. I think you'll like the Ipaq, I have its smaller brother, the 1940. It is a good machine and has Windows Mobile 2003 installed as well I hope. It costs £50 to upgrade from HP, not the £23 it cost us!
I have found three web sites that deal with Ipaq problems, but none as good as this unfortunately.
PM or email me when you join the Ipaq club and I will give you the links.
Speak soon
Regards

Hi Happy
Well it sounds like Doug is happy with his HP - so maybe won't be so bad - bummer to have it stolen though!
I hadn't planned on buying another cradle & PSU - but if your just looking to pass it on I'd by interesting in talking - would obviously pick up postage. Let me know
Good luck with the new machine - do you have to wait in or do HP have a different delivery policy?

I've got the 2210 PDA - its tiny! I even told HP it was a girly PDA!
Works fine but there's a few little moans about the accessories - for example the cradle can charge the 2210 OR the battery but not both. And the PSU is an all-in-one unit with a fixed UK plug on the PSU itself. Not the nice tiny Dell Axim PSU that works with a standard 8-style mains lead.
But it does come with a quality backup routine (Sprite software) and a werid case that strangely works well.
More moans later I think.... :o)
(Having fun getting a 512mb SD card from the insurers - I told them NO SANDISK - and thats upset them I think...)

Why...what's wrong with Sandisk? :p :p :p
Hope it all works out.
After writing a threatening letter to Dell saying that I was getting a refund under the Consumer Credit Act my CD arrived by next day courier (and they threw in a Pack of Stylii for `goodwill`.
Finally...a working 2003 axim. I can't remember what I bought it for now...

The A04 to A05 "performance upgrade" or to you and me, *rom patch* CD so that my Dell no longer runs at snail speed. Most of you guys have probably already got it....
Mine used to hang at the 1/13 thing but this went quite smoothly....very important as I use it for satnav and now thankfully I get the "turn left" signal before I`ve passed the road and not after it...

Crazyp, I bought my Axim early July and am still running the faulty AO4 rom version of WM2003.
Did you have to hassle Dell for the patch or did they automaically send it to you (joke!).
On another note, have you heard about the different spec.s on the Axim's memory. I heard that sometime in July they started shipping out a faster memory chip.

@Apaul
If you are still running A04 DEFINITELY badger Dell until they send you an upgrade CD. Three months for a non-working item is silly.
Nope - I hadn't heard anything specific about the Axim memory chips (although it did occur to me that not all Axims were the same - why should only some of them hang at 1/13 of the upgrade process despite being fully hard reset etc..?)
Do you have any more info on this?
