Personally, I think we are being too impatient, expecting delivery of a new software system without waiting four weeks or so for the priviledge! Would it happen with Microsoft? Perhaps the fault lies with them?
The fact everyone gets told something different, depending on which way the wind is blowing at the time, is irrelevant.
Te He!

I believe what Rubber-boy Bernie :p and myself are saying that the US crowd are getting told the end of July straight away, whilst us Brits have an ever changing date (that's probably going to be the end of July) - so why can't Dell UK just say so?

Jon,
Agree totally! You may have noticed a little bit of "tongue in cheek" humour in my last post? Our American cousins are being given, hopefully, the worst case scenario, us Brits are being told anything, it doesn't matter if it is true or not. Keep 'em happy! Or not as the case may be...........
Have a nice weekend.

Well for everyone who isn't happy about having to pay for their upgrade, imagine if you owned a Toshiba e740. A device that is still being sold and has a Xscale 400 CPU but has effectively been dropped by Toshiba. No update to 2003 is available or will become available so it runs slower than a 200 mhz Arm system! Check this site out.

http://www.petitiononline.com/e300e740/petition.html

At least Axim owners will have the option.

As for me, I have just ordered my Axim X5 400 and it has PPC2003 installed :). I can't wait as my Ipaq 3630 stopped working about 3 weeks ago :(

Pagnell,
I know about Toshiba! Before my Axim, I was the proud owner of an E310 which was out of date before I had got back from the shop I bought it from! No kidding. They are on about the eight model since the E310. No hang on, it's Friday, the ninth!
:D

:) Yep, they are the pits when it comes to support. My friend is going banana's as his e740 (which he paid £470 for less than six months ago) is basically an Arm system with a few extras due to the Pocket PC 2002 OS on it.
The good thing about Dell is that they release a PDA and stick with it.

Give them a chance! Toshiba were the same, then whoosh..... you can't stop them. The only problem with Dell, as you may have read above, is their Customer Care system, it fails occasionally! But we do like their PDA which is something.

You're going to like this:

I've received my written confirmation of the upgrade:

Code:
Item No. Description Unit Price

750-10356 PPC'03 Upgrade kit English 27.00 GBP

                                    Subtotal 27.00 GBP
                                    Freight 0.00 GBP
                                    VAT 4.74 GBP
                                    Total 31.73 GBP
Unit price = £27.00 ???? Do wot??? Compare that with the price on the website - £19 + VAT

Oh, and that order confirmation letter states Estimated Delivery Date to be 07/07/2003. Don't they mean 2004??

Update - Just rang Dell Customer support - they're going to refund me £9.40 (thats £8 + 17.5% vat) on the shipping charge; making the upgrade cost £22.33 - the price currently shown on the Dell UK website! Result!!!!

(Why the 'ell I had to do all this I have no flippin' idea! It's clear Dell hasn't, either...)

Worried

Guess what? My forecast delivery date has gone back from the 9th to the 7th of July. The sounds of my head banging against a wall are heard in Northampton, England....

Since I wrote this, in 24 hours the date has moved 7th - 10th - 7th - 9th - 10th -9th and now 7th. :hide:

Sorting out the SD issue is easier to understand than this!!! :p

I also received the written confirmation letter quoting £31.73, I am trying to get the lower price like Happy...

The online order status which still showed 07/07/03 this morning, now shows 10/07/03, will I get it before my holidays or not? I wouldn't bet on it...

I also stay in the UK and I have ordered the windows Mobile 2003 upgrade for my axim. Dell took £31.73 from my bank and I called them to get them to refund the delivery amount of £9.40. I recommennd to all that you email them rather than call as the people on the end of the phone have no idea of either

a)what the Axim X5 is???
b)why you should get a refund
c)they phoned back and stated that you only get free delivery with systems and again did not know what the axim was.

Jees. I think the call centre id in Deli as well

Heres hoping I get more joy from my email
