I understand that

James what I mean is it is obvious they are selling a bunch and as they hit a number (a max number for that supply coming in) then they move the ship date out. That is what I meant .. if you want it quick (as quick as can be) then you need to get the order in.. example today..just in about for hours time they moved their ship dates from 7/22 to 7/29..

I am sure as more orders come in they will move then a week at a time.. one thing we do seems to know about Dell.. They seem to give a date they know they can make so I expect it earlier then 7/22/03

Anyway,.. sure got the board buzzed up huh?

I see what you are saying, but from the way it was explained to me, Dell would send them all out the same day.

I bet they do..

I bet your are right at them shippin gall at once but when I was in manufacturing.. we would be held to a promise of qty/date... I think everyone tries to give a date that you feel good about making.. It is always better to ship earlier then promise then to be late and have to ask forgiveness <g>

Anyway, I am guessing that they are doing do same whoever is pressing CDs (or whatever they call it) is making a promise to Dell that x number will arrive at a certain date and then so many a week.. purely speculation but also kinda an educated guess...

That would also cause Dell to ship all at same time for ther orders in sequence of date ordered.. But.. their 3rd party people may also be doing the drop shipping for Dell.. again at so many a week...

Who cares really.. I just hate to wait!.. But I think Dell is being fair on their policy and prices.. expecially with the CD kit..

Chris did one of the best reviews I have read to date. I even sent the link to two IPAQ friends (yes.. I am still friends with them) and they enjoyed the read for the detaisl to 2003 OS..

I just got off the phone w/Dell after placing an order. Contrary to a previous post, they do charge your credit card immediately, even though the item will not ship until late July. I'm not particularly worried as this is not a big ticket item (like say, a laptop) and I personally would benefit from not having any charges on my bill for August.

I also was quoted a July 22nd ship date.

As a side note for those interested in becoming "early adopters", the phone reps who haven't already taken orders for Windows Mobile 2003 during their shift today will probably have a hard time finding the item numbers and ordering options initially. I called twice and talked to two different reps over a 2-3 hour time frame and neither one had even heard of the product. Both eventually figured it out (I ended up commiting to purchase the second time around), but be prepared for a bit of waiting at least for today...

I ordered the upgrade this afternoon. I just checked the status and it shows shipping July 25-29. Waiting sucks! But I have to have it ;).

I ordered mine today too! Dell does not bill your card until it ships, but they do put a hold (get authorization) on your card to verify the order. They just want to make sure that they can get billed when they are ready to ship.

I have personally given up trying to understand how dell decides who to ship to, and when. It seems when the Ax first came out they shipped them out without any rhyme or reason....no method to their madness. I am sure this will be no exception to their madness! They'll probably ship in waves starting around the 15th, and just because you ordered today does not mean you will receive it any faster than anyone who orders it next week!

I love Dell! you never know what to expect next.

PS I ordered mine 30 min ago and I just got email conf. that it will ship 7-22..go figure!

I don't think they actually charge your card until they ship the items. Compaq took roughly that long to ship the PPC2K2 upgrades when people bought them -- longer in some cases.

Dell probably doesn't have the disks done yet and is taking orders now rather than staying mute on the subject. It's not like your Axim is malfunctioning or anything, so it's not urgent to get the disks out.

Luckily, I bought my unit within the last 30-days, and I actually want to upgrade from teh Basic to the Advance, so, I'm just doing a return/exchange thing and I'll get mine sooner -- but, I still have to wait until 7/8 for it to ship .

Download a nice eBook, sit back and enjoy July -- you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the new OS before the next one comes out.

Read a couple posts above and you'll see I did write that. My point is we are going to have a couple weeks until they release it, so if money is an issue, wait until mid July....

If anyone gets earlier ship dates please post here. On the website it says "Usually Ships: 1-2 Weeks."

To be perfectly honest, we we starting selling the Axim last november, the estimated ship time was 2-3 weeks, but they started shipping the next week. July 1st is more likely a better ship estimate, for those who ordered the upgrade the day it same out. I know everyone cringes at the long ship time that we almost ALWAYS give for just about anything we sell. But in most peoples experience, it usually ships a hell of a lot sooner. I know its not much to go on, but i hope that it helps
