I just wonder - is Windows mobile 2003 like windows XP - it fits all computers, or have dell a little modified version for the axims?

If I find Windows mobile 2003 in a store, will it work on my dell? (and maybe my brother's ipaq also?)

Even if you could find it in the store you'd still need to figure out how you are going to get it on your Axim. And you'd need to figure out what special drivers dell has created on their "version". Pocket PC/ Windows Mobile is an embeded OS which means its customized to the device. Unlike Windows XP, you really need to the the OS from the vendor. If you are a really technical "nerd" you should be able to figure out how to put a "generic" Windows Mobile on you Axim, but I can tell you Dell won't support it.

If you find Windows Mobile 2003 in the store, let me know...

I doubt that is the way it works. In the past (with other PPC versions), they are usually distributed from the vendor (in this case, Dell). The vendor always makes adjustments to optimize it for the device (drivers, power settings, menus, switcher bar, etc.).

Well, here's my 2 cents on this. Dell recommends that you update Dell related software (OS specifically) through them simply because they arrange the program specifically for the device.

However,

I would say that you should be able to use any generic Win Mobile 2003 OS and technically it should work, although, I recommend going through Dell simply because they specifically tweak etc the stuff they get from Microsoft directly for the Axim.

I was actually hoping for a warez release, but if it must be optimised for Dell i guess I will never get MM2003

Dell in Norway sucks. It's a mixed up irish, norwegian, danish thing, and buying from them is a pain in the ass

I have a suspicion that buying from dell in USA would be faster and easier. Maybe I'll try that...

MM2003 is not even mentioned on the norwegian website (well, it's actually a mixed up norwegian/english website).

BTW, i feel they should give it to me free. I got my dell early May, and a week or two later the price was reduced, and now ppc2003 is released...

There is always a cutoff date... You just happen to be unlucky, but that is no reason so steal software.

If buying software is a problem, why not just use Linux? Its a very simple answer to the problem....
