No, it won't solve the problem. I got a new Axim with 2003, put an SD card in (one with one of the 'bad' serial numbers) and the Axim was asking me to format it after just a couple of days. I sent the card back to Lexar.
happycheesecake has more specific info, but basically if the card was made in China or Taiwan there's a good chance of it crapping out. the bad serial numbers look like nn9999nn where n is a letter and 9 is a number. usually the letter combos are like AR, LR, LQ.
all of these bad serial numbers come from china or taiwan.
