PPC Windows 2003 Solution for SD Sandisk?
Hi gang~
I was wondering if the newPPC windows 2003 will possiblly fix the Sandisk SD problems that have been accuring? This would be wonderful for people who have Sandisk's SD cards. Any thoughts about this? Richard www.richardjsmith.net

No one will know for sure until someone tests it out. Windows Mobile 2003 for the Axim won't be out for awhile. But if the defect is in the card, I doubt the new OS will fix it. Especially if some tries to format it already with StorageTools.

I do know that the SDMMC.DLL driver has changed in Windows Mobile 2003 - it was 14k in size and has gone to 17.5k... Not sure if it has fixed any problem - yet.
I've got 38 SD cards now - 10 Sandisk - not one Sandisk works. They all have a code on the back starting AR03...

I have two SanDisk cards - 128 and 256 MB - both seem to work well. Am I missing something? (I am only using it to store files / songs / movies)....
Also, my 256 MB card also begins with an AR03. I guess I should feel rather lucky ![]()

My understanding is that the issue with Sandisk 256MB SD cards was only on Dell Axim X5s--I don't think any other PPC 2002 device was reported as having problems with Sandisk 256MB SDs, and even then, not every Axim user has experienced a problem.

One thing I noticed and take it for what its worth I have not tested the thery yet. If i load a large amount of data in a short time the card becomes unreadable. If i load the same amount slower (one by one) the card is fine

cheesecake I have a few therys but dont know how to test them. could it be a binary bit some how getting lost on the card? or maybe the Bios cant handle that large of file size. (although cf cards seem to be ok from what ive seen) or here is an interesting idea i had. Could the voltage to the sd card reader be dropping out under heavy load. If you load the files indivually the voltage would have only slight drops. If you put it on a heavy load it would drop even more and more until you get a bad data write hence coruption?

From what I've been told, it appears that certain SD card controllers do not stick to the SD Card Association's secure-standard.
Its something to do with the speed the card can reply to the Axim when it's first inserted - it seems that the Axim believes the slower SD cards are MMC cards. This means the Axim ignores the secure part of the SD card - when it tries to write over the area on the SD card that is set aside for these secure attributes; this knackers the FAT and then all hell breaks loose. Only happens during heavy write/update operations... Some (newer) Axim's have more problems than others... Maybe they're more sensitive to slower cards?

my .02 on sandisk sd cards
Well, after reading all the above about the Sandisk SD cards, I thought I'd just throw in my two cents worth. I bought an Axim and a 256MB Sandisk SD card some months ago. I read many posts about the Sandisk problems, as well as suggested solutions. What I did was download a third party application for the axim to format the Sandisk card (for first time use). I used FlashFormat for this function (as it was purported that the problem with these cards was that the Axim wasn't properly formatting them). Secondly, the issue with the "My Documents" folder on the SD card. Apparently, things work a lot smoother if this folder is created, either when the card is formatted, or immediately after. By doing these two things, I had no problems with this card whatsoever on my Axim. I will not try to analyze or even understand "why" this worked for me. I am more than happy to just be able to say that it does work for me, and should work for anyone with an Axim and a SanDisk SD card.
Now, as to the original question, it is a good one, and I hope someone who has upgraded to win mobile 2k3 and who has a Sandisk SD card (preferably 256MB), could post any experiences they've had with their cards. It has to be a new card though...

I just got a 256meg sandisk SD card yesterday. I didn't format anything, just stuck it in and it works fine. I'[m copying a 100meg avi file from my CF card (viking 256meg) to the sandisk.. it's copyin gnow but i'ts kinda slow.. it takes about 5 seconds per 1% of copying that it does.. is that normal?
