I am less than a tyro when it concerns firewalls, networks, etc. I recently installed Trend Micro Pc-cillin and now can't get access via terminal services or PcAnywhere. Further, I can't access the internet thru the cradle with IE. I can turn off the PC-cillin firewall and it works. Does anyone know or can give me very basic and detailed instructions for setting up eceptions in Trend firewall (at least I think that is what is causing the problem). I have tried several based on readings I have found but none work.

Thanks for any help!!
Pc-cillin is likely blocking port 3389. What version are you running? I think this might help you, except that instead of "53" enter "3389", and I'd name the rule something like "Remote Desktop".

I am using Trend Micro Pc-Cillin Internet Security 2006. I don't have the things mentioned in the link. I have an exceptions page. I use an Aximx50v WM2003se to access.
I tried following the steps in the link provided above to open port 3389. That worked for pcAnywhere but not for Terminal Services. Thanks for the pointer. Any other assisstance will be appreciated.

Okay, take a look here. It's basically the same as in that other article I linked to. You'd need to click on 2006's Exceptions tab, click the +Add button, then create a custom rule as seen in figure 8-11 on the PDF page 13 (shows 223 on the lower right of the pdf page) but allow for 3389 for Specified Port(s). The Target item below Descriptions would likely be "Operating System componenets". You'd then just tailor the other settings to your network, like network IP ranges and such. The VNC is a good example since remote desktop functions in something of a similar way in terms of firewall configuration.
Just to be sure...are you meaning using terminal services FROM your desktop pc or TO your PC? That might affect whether you'd select incoming or outgoing. FYI, RDP Terminal Services use port 3389 by default, same as PCAnywhere.

Also, if your internet security app is hampering your Axim's connection to the PC while docked, see this ActiveSync Firewall Troubleshooting guide.
In sum the author states the following:
Quote:
If you are using a firewall in between your desktop and your Pocket PC, Handheld PC, or Palm-size PC, you must allow for Netbios and port 990, 999 and 5679 to use ActiveSync. For a complete list of the ports, please review my Protocols FAQ. I do not recommend opening these ports due to the additional security risk.
I guess I'd make sure that your Axim's IP address, which is usually something like 169.254.2.x is added to your "safe" list. Excluding it will cause PC-cillin Internet Security to block most communication attempts to and from your PC.

Okay, Thanks. I am using Terminal services on my axim to connect to my desktop when out on the road and need to check mail, files, etc. What is the name of the program to which I should browse to put in the specific program box?
Again Thanks you are being exceptionally helpful!

See my upload here. I *think* you just specify Operating System Components, not any particular application. Of course I could be wrong on that, but offhand I think that should work since terminal services isn't relying on a specific executable per se.

Well, I tried these and still can't get to my desktop from my Axim using Terminal Services Client. My ignorance is overwhelming... where do iI put my Axim's ip on a safe list? When I look at Socketcomm wifi app it shows my ip address as a fairly generic 192.168.1.112 not the more arcane one listed above. Am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks. Oh, I can now get to the internet from the cradle, I didn't go the route of the Netbios, ports listed above, only those things that apply to PC Cillin
