Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Upgrade Kit does not incur any extra delivery charge purchased on its own (i.e. when purchased on its own freight will be deducted when order is processed)

It says "extra" delivery charge. Why can't they just say you won't pay for postage? Sounds confusing to me!

I guess there trying to ensure that if you order other stuff at the same time you don't think you'll get it all delivered for free...either way I don't think they can win on this one...at least it's now available, the price is set (and reasonable comparison with the states...unlike some other accessories)...now we'll just have to wait and see it it's any good.

Do appreciate if you received your ax a few weeks ago paying for the upgrade is a pain...but hey ding dong dell!

Frankly dell really do excel at sucking the fat one with regards to customer service. Why should people who have bought their Axim in the last month get stiffed by having to pay out another £22 for the upgrade. Just spoke to a sales rep who said that you had to have bought it between the 6th June and now to get a free upgrade. (She didn't even realise they were selling it - had to give her the ref code of the site before she would believe me!!!) Pointed out that Microsoft site said they recommended the 23rd May onwards (bought mine 26th!) but all I got was I'm sorry sir, but that is company procedure!!! Add to that having to take a day off work to wait for the delivery (have to use a courier can't just use normal mail for a CD - Company procedure again!) and frankly I am struggling to see why I should bother upgrading.

It is a great shame that the Axim is one of the best PPC's out there, cos otherwise I certainly wouldn't recommend Dell to anyone.

(Rant Over!):p

All I can to finish this off for me is WHAT A MESS!!! In 24 hours I have heard - No we haven't received it yet, yes it's being shipped today, 23rd May free upgrade, 6th June free upgrade, no free upgrade, £30, buying it £31, no it's free shipping £22.
Talking to one person in Dell, tells you something, talk to someone else, tells you something completely different. All I can say is well handled DELL, at least your AXIM seems to work with no problems. Which is more than I can say for your Customer Care!

A colleague of mine has just gone through the same process as yourself, dwizzo. He has managed, after 40-odd minutes to get through to the Team Leader of Dell Ireland Customer Support, and is sending the Team Leader weblinks to Dell, Microsoft and the Dell forum (where the Moderator says that US customers will get a free upgrade if they have a 23/05/2003 or newer Axim) … I'll keep you folks informed…

I look forward to the response - will be interesting to hear how they respond to customers unwilling to be fobbed off by company procedure and who feel they are being unjustly treated. Money or reputation... All for the sake of £22 for some people who bought their product in a 3 week period... says a lot really!

I found this on PocketPCMagazine.com:

Microsoft's OEM Technology Guarantee:

Microsoft has offered its OEM partners such as Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba, and Dell a "technology guarantee" in order to encourage them to offer Windows Mobile 2003 upgrades for their customers that have purchased Pocket PC 2002 devices around the time of the Windows Mobile 2003 launch. The Technology Guarantee Program is between OEMs and Microsoft, not between Microsoft and the end user.

Yeah, and the link in this thread was suggesting a free upgrade, independant of operating system, country of origin, etc...all to good to be true (and a phoney MS site - not a dell site)

So the Dell UK link is fine!

Doug,

What sort of order number / reference did you get with your order? I sort-of forgot to print the order confirmed screen (oops) and as yet I've not received any confirmation from Dell UK..

I ordered the Axim on 23 June after the Dell web page said they were shipping PC2003. It arrived to-day with PC2002.
Have just spent almost two hours on the 'phone to Dell UK who insisted I had ordered PC2002 and flatly refused to send me what I had ordered. They would not let me speak to higher management and generally they could not care less about giving me what I had ordered.

Beware Dell.

7 Day satisfaction - persist or send it back and get another new one - thats not acceptable in my humble opinion (although a four day turn around on an order from Dell is pretty good!)

Mad No free upgrade to UK customers

From what I've heard - my colleague is getting a free Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade for his 2 week old Axim because he nagged Dell enough.

However no-one else is. Dell policy is that everyone in the UK has to pay for their upgrade CDs, whether their Axim is 1 day old or 6 months.

Maybe others should ring Damien at Dell Ireland and complain too. But then, Dell's policy changes day by day so who knows..
