2003 - What's happening in the UK!
Apparently, not a lot! I rang Dell today hoping to get a free upgrade for my three week old Axim but obviously $36.9 billion dollars profit is not enough for the year! I also told him I had bought the machine on the 31st May from them and he still said I would have to pay for the upgrade. Where does this "23rd May - free upgrade" come from? I need evidence to quote at them, they all obviously speak different languages!
I was told that MS Mobile 2003 had not been issued in the UK yet and they were sending out Axims with 2002 on them, so if you were thinking of ordering, I would wait awhile. I have to watch the Dell website for the date of releast then order. Trust the UK to be behind again or am I being span a dit by Dell!!

Even more information!
Rang Dell again about this "free upgrade if you bought your Axim after 23rd May" taken from the Dell Community Website. This only applies in the States, not the UK!! Second class service yet again! I was told by this representative that new Axims from today were going out with 2003 on them, contrary to what another chap said an hour ago that it had not even been received in the UK yet. Does anybody in that Company they know what they are doing? Have two of them got the same story?
I am disappointed and although I like the machine, I think the after sales and customer care service suck!! That's if you can get through a Customer Care agent anyway, rather than being put through to Technical Support which I don't want.
What a farce!

I just rang Dell UK up and got "the upgrade will be available in a couple of weeks and will cost £30.."

If the upgrade costs $30 in the US then the upgrade here should cost nearer £20!

This English upgrade is available on the Dutch & Belgium Dell Axim Accessories web pages for about €35 - that's about £25.

I will not pay £1=$1 price, not even for this upgrade

Rearrange these words into a well-known saying:

off, Dell, a, is, rip

What a farce!
Totally agree with you. It really does depend on who you speak to in the Company. Of the two I spoke to this morning, one said it was not even over her yet and wouldn't be for at least two weeks, the other said it was in all new Axims from today.
I certainly object to having to pay £30 for this when our American cousins over the water get it for free! Here is one person who normally buys new operating systems straight away but will waiting for Dell to get their act together before I commit myself. It would just be my luck to buy it then Dell have a change of heart (have they got one?) and bow to public pressure in the UK and give it away. We can dream!

happycheesecake,
Where do you get this "30 day return if not satisfied" policy? I have been down the Terms and Conditions and found the "7 day check it or else tough" policy but not the one you mentioned. Is this not a US policy, as is the 23rd May free upgrade?
Perhaps we all ought to move over the pond!!

Hmmm, I found this:

http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/corpor...-23-rr-000.htm

Quote:
Existing Axim customers in North America and Europe can purchase a Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade with companion CD from Dell for $29, and can order McAfee VirusScan PDA via the companion CD

See that, but that does not talk about the 30 day return, only $29 for the upgrade CD. Again nothing in the Term and Conditions.

Looks like I made a mistake (happens often!) The 30 day return is US only. Bugger.
As for the free upgrade, well ANY UPGRADE would be nice!!!

Why are Dell such a bunch of sods ? They are so negative, especially over the UK. They remind me of Sandisk!!!!

If this continues it might be time to consider having a friend (like me) order a few of these for you in the US and send them to a contact in the UK for Distribution. If we put enough together to keep shipping costs down it could at least get you closer to the $29.00 US. There are other ways to skin this cat! Let me know if this needs to be done.

Thanks for the offer, MyUncle, really appreciated. We will wait until Dell come up with a pricing on their UK upgrade and then come back to you. Some confusion!
Would you like to send me your email address or perhaps I can send you mine, because as the weeks go along, this thread will drop off the end and I might not be able to find your address. I can do so from your profile.
Thanks again, much appreciated.

I too rang Dell UK yesterday and was told by a very unimformative and rude chap that the upgrade was not going to be out for a few months and that the website information was all wrong. He was so rude and not-interested that i almost put the phone down on him. I then emailed the Dell Press Ofiice and informed them politely of there crap service and clarification on the upgrade process. I have as yet to receive any reply, surprise, surprise...

I have read on many other forums that although users are very happy with the AXIM as a product but utterly turned off by the Customer Service and after care, and my conversation yesterday only confirmed this..

Feel free to email/PM me. I'm not going anywhere and can almost always be found in here somewhere. I visit at least once daily!

I would hope that Dell will get a handle and fix this nonsence though!

So yesterday it wasn't even over here then! And here it is!
£22 sounds quite reasonable until you add the £9.40 postage bringing the total to over £31. When you think the product itself without VAT or P&P is £19, that's quite a difference.
I have sent another email to Dell asking for someone to give their UK customers the "official" version of this upgrade thing, rather than leaping in and buying then finding out they will do it and trying to get a refund.
I'll come back if they reply to me! IF!!!

The page says that the postage will be deducted so £19+vat = £22.35...no complaints here!
