Downgrading to ppc 2002
Ok its here great! But i have alot of hardware and software for my PPC and whilst i am determined to buy the upgrade if all or most of my software/hardware does not function correctly then ill happily return to ppc2002.

However is this just as simple as reinstalling A03?

I don't think you can go back once you have upgraded.

Well maybe not... If the ROM update truly wipes the ROM, then you could just go back. BUT, I really don't know....

You cant downgrade. The upgrade will re-write to the rom and even if you hard reset you will still have 2003. Sorry

But....the A02, A03, etc. Updates also re-write the ROM. So therefore, you could POSSIBLY just install the old "upgrade" again and *bam* you're back to PPC2002. None of us are 100% sure of how the MM2003 upgrade is performed though, so there is no way to tell until the copies get mailed off.

Downgrading to 2002
I just went through our Windows mobile 2003 training simulation. During the install, it allows you to save an image of pocket pc 2002 to your hard drive in case you ever need to roll back to an earlier version of the OS. So you CAN downgrade if 1. you don't like 2003 or 2. it causes issues. Hope that helps

I figured that MS would have it set up this way, as just about every OS upgrade recently (not just PPC) that they have put out has a way to "roll back" to the prior version if there are conflicts. Thanks for the confirmation, though.

I wonder what would happen if you were to throw a03 Patch onto mobile 03 if that would backstep it.

Most assuredly not. the patches can detect what version of the os you are running, if you try to throw a 2002 patch on a 2003 OS, it won't load

But, the A03 (and other PPC2002 updates) contain an image of the entire OS. They completely erase the ROM....and put a brand new image (with entire PPC2002 OS) into the ROM. It might work, but I agree that the loader might give an error if it detects 2003 OS.

Most likely you won't need the D-Pad patch because dell will have fixed it into the Mobile 2003 upgrade.
