Bernie,
I've ordered it to - have you had any feedback from Dell yet regarding when it'll be delivered or whether the postage cost is FOC?

Not really - when I ordered the site said 7-10 days (which I think is quicker than in the US). But I haven't had a confirmation e-mail yet from dell suggesting a delivery date. As you will have noted I'm sure they say on the site that delivery will be deducted at processing - I guess the website can't cope with this annomoly - guess we'll just have to what and see - but if we keep in touch - see what happens & who gets first info

By the way, for others reading about the phoney Dell website on another thread, the UK one is GENUINE, I have just rang them and confirmed my order is genuine!! Also postage is deducted at processing.
Thank goodness for that, slight heart palpatations......

Yeah, but as clarified on the other thread - the phoney site is a rip off of a Microsoft site, not Dell - and the link to the Dell UK site is fine (as you have duly confirmed for us)

Just ordered mine too.
You're not the only one, the WOMD question does make me laugh too, specially when you think of someone using a PPC to do so, I mean come one MS would pay millions for that kind of advertising!
My question is, does anyone else find that shipping to the billing address only thing annoying? I rang my credit card company up and they only register one address so now I gotta hope dell ship to the other address I will be at to accept delivery. I wasn't the most happy chappy when I had to take time off work to get my axim delivery. I'm certainly not taking my last 1/2 day off to get an OS upgrade.
Whats everyone elses experience with this? Is is a left over of US credit card clearance techniques that aren't adopted in the UK yet? Or is my high tech online credit card account not all that high tech? :)

I think the practive of only shipping to the billing address is a good idea mostly ... It prevents people from using your credit card to send the items they order to a temporary mail box or address ...
But my bank allows me to keep different approved addresses on file so if the place I order and it allows it to be shipped elsewhere then I can pick where I want it to go and my bank won't deny the charges ...
Also most of my things come either UPS, FedEx or AirborneExpress ... Since I can track these online I can call them in advance and have them hold the package for me to pick up at their office so I can pick it up after work ...

My credit card company used to allow alternative addresses, but they stopped doing this - I was told that it was SPECIFICALLY because of so many Dell shipments going missing to people's work addresses!
I'm not surprised - when I ordered my Axim, Dell shipped it to the wrong address, even though I'd input the correct address on the web site, and the address they shipped to didn't match my credit card address either. So I'm not surprised so many things go missing. It took me 3 weeks to get it all sorted out to get my Axim. (The only reason I found any of this out is that the Post Office delivered the order confirmation to my house, even though it also had the wrong address on it - so for once, two wrongs made a right!)

Ok kiddies, let get back to the upgrade issue...
Anyone from the UK got an order number for their upgrade? I have two emails with subjects:
Thank you for your order
Your Dell Order Number...
... but the email entitled "You Dell Order Number" actually has a Dell Offer number rather than an order number...
And yes, I've tried the offer number as an order number against the order status page... All I get is "The order number you entered is not a valid order number for your country"

Whle I understand the reasons why they would want to implement security measures like this I do think it goes way over the top. When I ordered my Axim I missed the courier's first attempt at delivery, upon ringing them to find out where their depot is, so I could collect it at a more conveinient time, I was told they were unable to release anything from Dell unless it was to the specified delivery address.
What amazed me though is that on top of that I still had to provide photo ID to the courier when they delivered it to my home.
Anyway, grumbles to one side for the minute. I got a confirmation email this morning of my order and I guess i'll have to wait a few more days to see if the credit card gets cleared.
