Is this for real? It'd be really great to get a free update but the site doesn't seem to be a part of microsoft.com and, intuitively, I see no motive for Micosoft to give free updates to everyone when they could be making money off of it.

If someone has actually gotten the free update to work, perhaps you could post more info. :)

Well they are still going to ship it to you, its not for download (why?). This is a way of avoiding having to call dell and just do it onlnie though i think.

Looks pretty sketchy to me. Too bad Microsoft makes it so hard to email a real person on their website or I would have informed them just now.

Maybe I am totally wrong - But I thought the OS for a pocketpc is built specific for the brand and model.

In other words - There is no such thing as a generic 2003 that will work on any computer.

btw, i thought of one possible explanation. Maybey they are just testing the site on this server till its ready to go live on theirs. Whered the link come from?

Thats how phony sites work, they put
real links on the page, just to fool the people
that dont even look at the address bar...
these sites are not intended for geeks...

I get links like this all the time asking
for personal information, some look
more real then others..

If you compare the source code of the linked page & a microsoft page they are entirely different...

And if you scroll down on the page you get a button with a link to e-storefront which unsurprisingly doesn't list microsoft as one of their customers!!!

On the 23rd, the ACTUAL Microsoft website (Click Here for Page) linked to http://www.ppcupgrade.com for the Toshiba PPCs. However, it now says "(link coming soon)" next to the Toshibas.....but this might just be because Toshiba has pulled the upgrade. Since it was linked to on the MS site, I don't see a problem with it.....but don't take this as a DEFINITE answer.
