Fix for disappearing document links?

Here are some suggestions, and hopefully I can get some feedback on alternate methods, of how to fix lost links to programs like Note, PocketWord (pword) and PocketExcel (pxl).
I’m still working on an AximX5 running wm2003 (not even se!) call me old fashioned or behind the times, I don’t care. I love the device and will continue to use it till I drop dead or the Axim does, which ever comes first. I first experienced lost links to the programs above after installing tdLaunch for my Today Screen. Creating Today Screen links and icons to these programs with tdLaunch resulted in a corrupted link of sorts. Originally, if I was to open either Notes, pWord or pExcel from my Programs list (Start->Programs) the programs would start and a clean (empty) document would appear on the screen. After creating and employing the new Today Screen links, I would get an error window that the program could not be opened.
OKing through this window resulted in the unit defaulting to a PocketExplorer screen, listing all the program related documents on the Axim. I didn’t expect this, as the desired result was to have a new, empty document to work on, as the link produced originally. Identifying all remaining links on the Axim produced similar results and the original functionality had been lost. I’m not saying this will occur every time someone installs tdLaunch, but I would be interested in whether it has happened to anyone else. As the original link would open a new document with a single touch, the new path made me select a link (TodayScreen Icon) close a window and screen and then select NEW from the menu to open a document. It was becoming a PITA.
What I did was this: I created 3 new documents, one each for Notes, pWord and pExcel. Each were named “blank” and placed in the Windows folder of the Axim. I then went to tdLaunch and set the TodayScreen links to each of the documents named “blank” under Windows and did a soft reset. Now the Icons for Notes, pWord and pExcel still appear on the Today Screen in tdLaunch. Selecting them opens a New document for the perspective program and closing the document results in the default pExplorer screen listing all available documents of that type program. However,
there is a little glitch…
Normally closing the document results in an automatic save under a name created from the first few words or characters written in the document. This no longer happens and an error window appears stating: “The document is read-only or stored on an unavailable storage card. Save using a different name, insert the card, or save the document in Main Memory.” Well, this at least forces the user to select a name for the document AND a proper place to store it, but it is no longer automatic. So obviously it isn’t a perfect fix – Anyone have any suggestions on this or restoring the original link functionality?

Thanks!

The actual pocket word and excel .exe files are in the windows folder.

Also, if everything is just acting up and u havent hard reset in a while, u may just want to start with a clean slate.

And 2003/x5 is not old!! I no wm5/6 are in these days but us 2003/se users stand united and dont let this great stable os (it can run the old and the new) go to waste!

Spunker88 --

I realize pword and pexcel are in windows, however, using those links results in the explorer window opening listing all files of that type on the device. I wanted to restore the original functionality that, when the icon was touched, it would open to a new document, not the list of available documents. This is how my unit originally worked. I cannot find any existing link from an icon, that opens a new document. Thought there may be something hidden in there that someone knows about or possibly, some extra command in the link itself that opens a new document. The way I have it set now, I still get the error upon closing/saving and it takes extra steps. The fact that the "blank" documents are in Windows might be the reason I get the read-only error, I'm trying to think of another location to have them reside without putting them on the SD card (just in case it was removed, then I would lose the link and function.) Any other thoughts?

Hard Reset? Ahhhhh, trying to avoid that all together. The backup I have would restore the original problem I have, not the functionality.....
My Bad.

re: wm2003 OS - Yea!!!! Someone else who agrees!!!! Wouldn't mind having an X51v's additional memory and space, as long as it had wm2003(se) as the OS! But because it doesn't, I'm staying with my trusty X5!!!! Good Man!:approve:

You do realize that is what the x50v is. Its the exact same specs of the x51v, just with 2003se on it.

I mean wm5 gives u more memory to use than 2003se, but as far as specs the 2 are exact.
