What I'm worried about is if I upgrade to 2003 will my contacts and other data that I created such as my excel road trip log and other excel spreed sheet data be saved when loading the new verison OS. I hate to re-enter all my contacts names and other data. Will my backup data on my compact flash card sync up with the new OS, or do I have to name my device the same name as what was on PPC 2002, sorry for such a stupid question?

You need to do a back up before upgrading as a hard reset is required which will wipe out all of your data. I always back up to SD, CF and my PC before an upgrade.
