It's not the way you encoded, it's the Axim and 2003 for sure! Have tried the same wmv encoded movie on an Axim advanced with 2002 and on one (mine unfortunately) with 2003. Same movie file, same CF card. Super-choppy on 2003 and smooth as a baby's butt on 2002 :(

I even copied the movie to in-built memory and it did the same thing. The I/O under 2003 is just plain old crap. Hopefully the update cmes sooner rather than later (hopefully, Dell are still playing their corporate games, where one only admits the problem after a) they are sure it's their problem, and b) they already have a solution for it and are in final testing... *fingers crossed*)

(btw, the encoders in Windows Media Encoder 9 seem to do a good job :) You can get it directly from M$)

CheerZ :)

Just a short question here: do all the newly delivered axim's with wm2003 have this problem, or are there people who do not experience the problem at all? I can't get a clear answer on that..

All Axims with WM2003 have the problem. It is the individual's "perception" of how bad the problem is, that differs.

The problem doesn't appear to be as pronounced on Axim Basics as it is on Advanced. And those folks for whom the Axim is their first PPC (and therefore have nothing to compare it to) see the Axim performance as "not too bad".

All you need for an eye opener though is to take it to CC or CompUSA and compare with an iPaq to see the difference.

Very true. I kind of miss my Axim and its funny little quirks. I felt really sad to pack it back up in its box, insure it at UPS, and send it back for full credit.

Until the 2210 arrived.

Dell sent Airborne to pick it up the same day my 2210 came.

I really love this thing.

It's not that I hated the Axim. I just hated what Dell did and what they did to the Axim. Unfortunately, it didn't look like it was going to be fixed completely before I had to send it back, so away it went.

Yeah, I felt a bit of a time constraint as well. In retrospect, I should've kept the Axim and seen what I could get for it on eBay - Dell offered me $40 to keep it, so I would've paid $253. I doubt I could've done much better than that in an auction.

But yeah, I'm loving the 2210. The cradle's not as nice as the Axim's, but that's OK. I'd probably consider another Dell PDA in the future depending on whether issues and dependability get resolved to a satisfactory degree.

With all the problems dell is having with PPC 2003, it has me thinking of going to the 2210 and getting rid of my Axim.

Finally received my new Axim (ordered June 24th) and it has PPC 2002 !!

After complaining about the long delay to Dell last week, I posted info here somewhere that I hoped it didn't cause them to ship me one with the "buggy" 2003.

Well, it didn't - they shipped one with PPC 2002 (rom A02) manufactured July 9, 2003. Unbelievable.

Actually, I was hoping that they had solved the problem when I saw it ship last Friday. How foolish of me :crooked:

I'd gladly take a 2002 fix for mine... 2003 breaks PocketMIDI and NYDITOT. :(

Sracer Iread your thread on the Dell forum. Could not have said it any better myself. Even my Casio BE-300 runs faster than this slug, but hope springs eternal that that Dell can pull an EXPOD out of their A##.
