One example:
eWallet
PPC2002 - loads in 2-3 seconds
MM2003 - takes around 30 seconds :(

30 seconds? no way that seems really really odd

PPC '03
My Axim 5 with the 400 Mhx processor and PPC '03 is very slow, loading most programs.
I am also using an iPAQ 3955 with 2002 and it performs a lot better than the Axim.

The Aximsite Admin's review said nothing about slowdowns or sluggish performance did it?

Does anyone recall if the unit used for testing by admin was an upgrade or an Ax that came with 03 on it?
I'm wondering if units pre-installed are the ones suffering performance problems. I know we can't really test that until August but maybe some one knows about the admins unit. IIRC his benchmarks were impressive.

Well, that settles it, I'm cancelling my upgrade order tomorrow until we get some good results.

note everybody--please make a clear distinction between the ROM update "A03" and the new OS "WM2003"
the number "03" has been used in this thread to describe both items and they are TOTALLY different.

Slow Axim
Mine is a NEW unit, it came with 2003 pre installed, I am looking forward to upgrading my iPAQ to see the difference.
I noticed that the performance is poor in most programs such as email, IE, AvantGo, and some of the games that I installed.
Cheers

I talked to a guy today and he was saying that the upgrade was pulled from Dell's website.
Wonder if they're trying to isolate the problem?
Well, I have the 30 day satisfaction guarantee. If they don't have it fixed within that time, it's going back and I'm getting an iPaq 2210.
Super

I have the free upgrade on order, but am waiting to hear more results from everyone before i install it. I WAS going to try to send back my ax because my stock stylus is scratching the... out of it - but I think i'll keep it now! sounds like its going to be more rare to have a 2002 system, then a 2003 one. hope they come up with a patch fix soon.

It is both faster and slower at the same time, the raw PERFORMANCE benchmarks are way better, and the kernel (Windows CE4, the kernel is the part of the OS which handles memory and processes)is far improved. If you take a look at other units that upgraded to WM 2003, you can see huge performance increases across the board. Those same increases are present here, BUT, there is something always running and taking up CPU power in hte background, possibly a buggy driver. This mostly is affecting filesystem, so maybe it is a read/write driver. Filesystem going from 2002 -> 2003 is TEN TIMES slower, according to benchmakrs, there's another thread with more details.
Basically, it looks as if dell shipped out an obviously buggy system out the door without debugging it first... not a very good sign...
