Basically, it looks as if dell shipped out an obviously buggy system out the door without debugging it first... not a very good sign...
|
Probably peer pressure from all of us here that were waiting for midnight to hit to refresh our browsers and place an order.
Dell isn't the first to ship something premature and buggy. I'm willying to bet that anyone who get's the 2003 CD will get a free patch/update/replacement. I'm not gonna cancel my order.
Heck it's not even due to ship until the end of the month. It's highly possible that what does ship will be the fixed code. I'm sure they are working on it and that if it's ready by the end of the month we'll get that.
A lot of worrying nellies running around cancelling orders if ya ask me. Just chill out and wait, see what happens. So much is still speculation.

Worrying nellies?! If you ordered one because you actually rely on it for day-to-day use (and not as some hi-tech toy) then the current performance issues are serious...extremely serious.
Chill out? What is someone with such a slug supposed to do in the meantime?
Speculation? There is absolutely no speculation that Axim Advanced devices shipped with WM2003 are slow...THEY ARE!

slow and unusable are not the same.
And rest assured mine is more than a "toy" I use it daily at work and at home.
No one said rush out and buy a unit with a brand new OS that is essentially untested in the real world, you made that call on your own. Not to mention anyone who expected a problem free OS from Microsoft is from another planet. I just had auto update download three new updates/patches this morning for my win2k workstation. That's how things are. OS's aren't perfect and V1 releases are never perfect.
Sorry but these are the problems that early adopters face. If the performance is too slow return it and get a Ipaq.
Look how fast A03 came out after A02. Do you really think you're going to be stuck with a "slug" forever?
Sorry the speculation I was talking about was the upgrade part. Unless I missed it all of our info is coming from units shipped with 2003.

I just got off the phone with Dell technical support. The nice man I spoke with said that all the 2K3 devices are reporting this lag. They are aware of it and working on a patch. I asked him if he knew when it would be available. He thinks within the next month.

I'm reasonably sure it would. If they ship the updates before it's fixed I'm sure the update/fix will be free. I wouldn't mind if they just held the CD until they were ready.

I wasn't asked if I wanted WM2K3... I just ordered an Axim Advanced. At the time that I ordered it, the website said PPC2002. I didn't know it was coming with WM2K3 until the order was verified.

Ah. I can understand that then. That does suck that you weren't informed about what they were doing. They shoulda been very clear about which OS was available on the site so people who didn't want 2003 would know.
I completely understand your point on that.

ok, so let me get this straight, or only axims that were shipped with 2003 showing a lag?, or were the upgraded axims showing one too? Also, does anyone when the bug fixes will be done. I ordered the Wm2003 cd and it said it would be shipped by july 28 so i am hoping that the bug fixes will be included on it.

My understanding is that all units shipping with 2003 are laggy. I don't think that there is much information on units upgraded yet.
My hope is that they fix the issue in time for or hold the shipping of the CD until it's done.
That part is up in the air. I would think/hope that if they ship the CD and it's slow that on it's heels will be a free patch.

Wonder if they're trying to isolate the problem?
Well, I have the 30 day satisfaction guarantee. If they don't have it fixed within that time, it's going back and I'm getting an iPaq 2210.

Why doesn't some daring soul try putting the A03 code on their new, shipped with WM2003, machine (after appropriate baselining on the original configuration)?
