Will 2003 speed up a PXA250?

I'm just starting to realize that there are two different 400mhz processors. I have the 250 (the older one). Will 2003 speed up the programs or slow them down?

Well im a member of the 250 club also and from what i understand 2003 will improve performance on any xscale processor as its written to take advantage of it.

255 xscale processors are just a bit faster due to improvements over the 250.

theres a considerable debate going about this in several of the boards, basically it seems the 255 is faster, but the axim can't take advantage of the speed. the 255 does however provide better battery efficiency.

Of course it does depend what rom version you have as to what your processor shows up as does it not?

I thought A00 didnt recognize 255's

how can you tell what rom version you have, and does that matter with the new 2003 upgrade? because it rewrites the rom, right?

ROM version for ppc 2003 is A04 i think

Initially the axim came with A00 (which didnt pick up 255's i think)then A02 & A03 were released almost simultaneously which fixed various little probs/bugs and showed the 255's

Let me try to answer these:

(1) The quick way to find out whether you've got a PXA250 or 255 is Start > Settings > System Tab > About, which will report your processor type and memory capacity, among other things. Mine says:

Microsoft PocketPC
Version 3.0.11171 (Build 11178)
(C) 1996-2001 Microsoft Corporation
All rights reserved.

This computer program is protected by
U.S. and international copyright laws.

Processor: Intel(R) PAX250 63.54 MB

(2) For detailed info about your system, which includes everything above plus your ROM version, OS version, and detailed reports of your memory, open the SysInfo file in the MyDocuments|SysInfo folder. You'll get something like the following (from my system):

Model: Dell Axim X5
CPU: Intel® PXA250 400 MHz B2 Stepping
Flash: 28F192 / 48 MB
RAM: 64 MB
ROM Version: A03 (04100300EN)
OS Version: 3.0.11171 (Build 11178)
CF: In Use
SD: In Use
Storage Size:
CF: 122.10MB / 27.48MB
SD: 122.41MB / 22.59MB
IPSM: 21.24MB / 19.90MB
Memory (Storage): Allocated: 31.73MB, In use: 13.85MB, Free: 17.88MB
Memory (Program): Allocated: 31.74MB, In use: 4.89MB, Free: 26.85MB
Power Status: Battery (Main: 100% / Backup: 100%)
Drivers Version: 04.10.03.00
Audio: 12.12.02.00
Button: 01.08.03.00
Display: 02.10.03.00

CF Interface: 01.13.03.00
Power Manager: 01.06.03.00
SD Loader: 11.08.02.01

USB Client: 11.08.02.01
Battery: 01.02.03.00

Hope this helps.
