bought a new one knowing about the issue beforehand, i doubt theyre going to take over a month from the time i bought it to come up with a fix. and hopfully i'll get build 14000 so i wont need a fix in the first place.
My IPAQ 36xx broke down about a week ago, I had a look 'round, saw the HP2215, but decided for the AXIM, because of price, more ROM and esp. the record and 'rocker' button - which I tend to use a lot.
I read about the probs the day after. Cursed myself ever after. I am expecting delivery tomorrow: I'll give it ONE go and send it back immediatly if only half of the rumours appear to be true! No time to wait for patches which only exist in newsgroups.
What's more, they'll have to do a lot of convincing before I buy anything Dell!
I'm not going to give up the Axim. Dell's first PDA is still good to me. Granted their Dimension 8100 stinks but for the most part it works. It will take some time before Dell actually gets a perfect model working. But then again, I've noticed other PDAs have there problem and those companies have been producing PDAs for quite some time now.

I'm awaiting a replacement (should arrive today) in the very slim hope that Dell secretly worked on the fix and slipped it into production. (I have absolutely NOTHING to base this hope on, just wishful thinking on my part).
But if there is no fix released prior to my 30 day window, I will be returning it for a refund.
(When I ordered my Axim Advanced, the website said it was PPC2002, but when the order was confirmed and en route, it said WM2003... I didn't have a choice... not that I could've known what the results would be...)
I just did buy one. Dell has 30 days to impress me with a fix or else it goes back.

I bought mine July 1 so I have until the 31 for Dell to make it happen. I'm not overreacting as I suspect Dell will work on it and either fix it quickly with a patch or not. If not return it and begrudgingly buy an Ipaq 2210 even though I HATE HP AND COMPAQ.
On a side note my company was looking into purchasing a boatload of the Axims for our field staff and has decided to hold off after I let the key people know whats going on. Currently our company and associates have purchased over about 30,000 desktops and laptops over the last 3 years and I have to say we have been more than pleased in all areas.
Our nationwide company has over several thousand employees.
If Dell would do the honorable thing and turn this into a customer service coup by admitting something is wrong and say they will make it right because Michael Dell already has more money than anyone could possible spend than I would have suggested to my company to go ahad and purchase them anyway.
Hope Dell can put that in their pipe and smoke it!

i hear you. as much as dell has screwed this up, the brand name Dell sits with me a lot better than hp or compaq.
quite frankly itd take a lot more than this WM2003 fiasco for Dell to lose me as a customer (for general comp stuff, anyway), especially with repect to compaq-hp.

I have to agree.
I'm probably going to take the wait and see approach on this one. (I have another 60 days to decide) I want to see the fixed results soon though. Those IPAQ numbers just can't be ignored.
As expected: it sucks big time.
Even the hardware's no good: press the on/off button and sometimes it will go, sometimes it won't. Twice I had to wait 20 minutes, before I could get it 'on' again.
Active sync hung up or just disconnected. Yeah right.. it COULD be Microsoft's fault.
The PPC itself is sloooow as is very well known by now. Slower then my first ppc (Jornade 548). I did NOT succeed in opening an E-book. Not One. Not even the HELP file. Nomatter whether it was on CF on RAM.. Clicking start takes a second before one sees any reaction... etc etc.
useless.
And then the whole unit just BREATHES cheapness and low quality. Record button is unusable, so is the 'joystick' (how is that called?) and the rocker thing is horrible. Even the reset button sucks.
You know what? Even the screensavers don't fit properly!!
Bah.
I hate it!
I ordered one because my IPAQ broke down and wanted a PPC quickly. What a mistake. Don't do it!
I've wrapped it all up and sent it back tomorrow.
I'll buy a HP.. or maybe one of these new japanese things.
I went to Best Buy today and played with a 2215...I was pretty astounded as to the difference in the two units. I'm sending mine back. Even with a fix, I feel like I'm getting hassled - I've spoken with Dell reps on a few occasions (whom treated me like a witless moron) and had multiple tech support emails go unanswered, which tends to leave a bad taste in the mouth. So, I will consider Dell products in the future, as I've been a frequent customer in the past, but the current support environment is untenable.
I agree some are reacting too strongly over this, but people deserve what they paid for: a working product. After comparing the 2215 to my Axim (which I've been loath to part with thus far), the difference was convincing enough.
