My guess is that the slowdown is somewhere in the file I/O read.

At least Dell has admitted to the problem. Also, since they're not shipping any new units until it is fixed, I assume that a patch will be forthcoming shortly.

How would I know if I "got a slow one" or don't I want to know? Everything seems fine, bought the 400 last month. Pretty new to this.
Thanks

Do you have Pocket PC 2002 or 2003?

If you have 2003, then your performance is probably not where it should be.

If you look at my first post in this thread, it compares the performance of an Axim with 2002 vs 2003

So far, I really like the unit. I wasn't too crazy about the stylus, but it is growing on me.

I'm sure the patch will be available very soon. Dell is holding off new Axim shipments until the fix is done. Remember, Dell can't bill your credit card until they ship the unit. Now, that is motivaton...

You may want to try running XCPUScalar... I forced the CPU clockspeed to 472Mhz under all load conditions and it appears to have made my Axim w/2003 fairly usable.

Brand new user here. Just ordered a Axim advanced to replace my aging Casio EM-500. Only started hearing about these problems after I place my order which is scheduled (along with everyone else apparently) to ship on the 18th. Is it generally expected that the units will ship on Friday or that they'll be delayed?

If you JUST ordered it, they will probebly hold the order until they get the problem sorted out, patch it, and send it to you. You shouldn't have any troubles after that. Your shipping may be delayed a little while, however.

Right Cross! Actually, NOW is a great time to place an order! At least you'll be practically guaranteed of getting a properly functioning one.

I'm glad that Dell finally acknowledged the problem... which is the first step towards resolution.

I'm glad that it would be fixed, but kinda ticked off that I was 2 weeks too early in my ordering! LOL
