Mad My Dell Speed is Killing me

Just got my Axim X5 300 - and upgraded from a 200MHz Ipaq - Came with Mobile2003 installed and was expecting some good perfprmance gains - but wait ! The dam thing runs really slow.

Eg. When i click start - theres lag until the pop down actually pops

When in mail, it jerks instead of scrolling. And loading programs from the CF Card - seams to take an age.

Loaded PocketMP3 and started playing - played a 128bit file ok but gittered when i tried to do anything else such as change volume - also didn;t even support buy playing a 192 bit file.

Called DELL Technical ( this is in India - and really struggled with the fella on the other side as kept saying "here" as in "in india!")
Who told me that the Axim has a firmware problem and needs an update !!!!! what the ***** just bought it !

So should I send it back or wait for the update ????

Advice Welcome - especially from DELL

dell is making a patch, they say it'll be ready by early august at the latest.

and it's weird that you're having problems, most people are reporting good results with Axim Basics, while the Advanceds are having a lot of trouble...

I would wait for the firmware patch. August isn't that far away. It is strange that your Axim Basic would be lagging.

Clarification: The general consensus is that the Basic suffers from the same problem as the Advanced...but just not as noticeable.

Ragpot, it's nothing new mate, we've known about it for a week now. I'm in the same situation, just got one and it runs like a dog with two legs.

Hang on in there, hopefully Dell will get this patch out ASAP. I'm anxious for it too.

I called Dell tech support, and was asking about this issue. He told me that the patch is "In the works" and they HOPE to have it in a week or two. He said no later than August is reasonable.
