Finally received my new Axim (ordered June 24th) and it has PPC 2002.

After complaining about the long delay to Dell last week, I posted info here somewhere that I hoped it didn't cause them to ship me one with the "buggy" 2003.

Well, it didn't - they shipped one with PPC 2002 (rom A02) manufactured July 9, 2003. Unbelievable.

So Dell actually went back to the line and began to start playing 2002. If so, that proves Dell knew of the problem with 2003 and did not 'admit' it openly as quickly as they should have.

Could that be why they pulled 2003 off the sales list?

Or Dell took a manufactured unit dated 7/9/03 and installed in the PPC 2002 after they found out about the problems with WM2003.

Strange... my Axim was shipped July 9, IIRC, and it has 2003. How does one find out date of actual manufacturing?

A good possibility.

However, if the fix is immanent, why go through this for a handful (one?) of orders? The last thing Dell stated was that they'd hold up shipping any units until the problem was fixed.

The good news, from my POV, is that it shows that Dell does indeed have 2002 working on the new Axims. So they could easily make a 2002 ROM available for those of us afflicted with 2003. (And frankly, I'd prefer 2002 at this point... 2003 breaks a few of my "key" apps.)
