Mapping shares and drives in MM2003

Hi, I am considering buying a Axim 300 model. One condition I have is that I can properly access fileshares on my desktop win98 and 2k machines while in my living room watching tv and just lounging around with WiFi. Can I do this? Can I also map printer to the MM2003 device or is that impossible?

Thanks have a good evening.

I'm contemplating buying one...its so hard to decide!!!!! great for keeping me organized, joting down notes, mp3 and NES emulators too I hear :)

hummmmmmm help me decide

\\server\share is all you need to do...

You should have no problem doing so.

Printing is a whole other issue. You'll need a third party utility. I'm not sure what works with WM 2003...

Pockerlan makes connecting to shares easy and keeping them saved and ready to go. Right now I am in my living room listening to mp3 off my desktop, surfing the web and checking email...

I actually use Resco File Explorer Explorer to map drives. Much better than the standard File Manager, but you can map without buying anything.

Can you actually run stuff off the share that way? I can see the share, copy stuff from it, etc, but running it won't work.

Does playing mp3s off a share, as another poster is doing, require additional software?

Playing music on a network...

From what I just read, you can use Resco File Explorer to see shared files on a desktop in your PocketPC. I read on Microsoft's MM2003 site in their support link that Windows Media Player can play files stored on a network by typing the network path.

You can not "run" a program, but you can play a MP3 off of a share.

I use Resco Explorer and it maps drives no problem and shows all computers on the network. You can then create a short cut to specific foloders on those drives with no problem.

I tried useing MWP to stream audio over the wireless, playing WMA was no problem, playing MP3 sucked as it had buffering problems. So I use PocketMusic and have the buffer set for 1mb - works great. I've created playlists of the majority of my music on my desktop and Pocketmusic knows where the files are.

I use PringPockerCE from fieldsofware.com to print to network printers.

No you can not run programs from a Shared Drive, since they are not PXA255 executibles.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, my wording was unclear. By "run", I meant open up documents (eg: tap a PDF in my share, and Acrobat Reader on the Axim would open it, etc). Same with MP3s...
