Question How Will I Know?

So I caved in and ordered a new Axim. The question is, with a delivery date (estimated) of July 29th, how will I know if I have the original or patched version of 2003?

Seeing as they've halted shipments till they fix it, you will get the patched version.

You will know from the performance. I would think there will be a different ROM version installed, so we should be able to tell from that.

If it makes you feel better, you're not alone.

That said, I think calling it dreaded is a bit exaggerated. Yes, the Axim is rather slow on some things, but I've found it generally usable...

I will agree with you. I am just frustrated that I spend this much money and I am not getting the performance that I expected.

Actually I wasn't upgrading at all. The Dell Axim X5 is my first Handheld experience. I have read a lot of reviews before purchasing the X5 and decided it was the best deal. I didn't expect to have these kind of issues (performance) right out of the box.

Where exactly are you seeing the worse performance issues?

Mine isn't exactly superfast (especially when using Pocket IE and the 802.11b card), but for the things I've done, it's usable... and the feature set is impressive (eg: the built-in Inbox app can get my email from an SSL IMAP account).
