Should I stay or Should I go?

I was wondering what others are doing with thier new problem Axims. Are you going to wait it out, or are you giving up?

Since I have one of the less-effected 300MHz models, I will be keeping it. It does everything I want it to, and as long as I don't run too many programs at once, it is quite speedy. I'm going into college this fall and my Axim will be my new best friend :)

I just sent mine back today for a refund.... hours before the "official" word of Sept 10. I was quickly approaching my 30 day window and didn't see then benefit of waiting a few more days. (Especially considering how poor Dell's customer service has been, I was afraid that a glitch on their part would cause me to miss out on the 30 day return)

Turns out that I qualify for an iPAQ 2210 for $357.... $90 more than I paid for the Axim... the time, energy, and aggravation I have expended on purchasing, customer service, replacing, and returning the Axim was way more than that $90 difference.

(update: found the 2215 for $348 at buydig.com... and placed an order.)

I'm keeping mine... sure it's sluggish on some things, but it's usable enough (more so than my Palm m100 with dead batteries, anyways...)

The choice is entirely yours, funnily enough.

I wouldn't mind a 2210 but the fact remains that I live in rip off Britain and getting a 2210 would cost me £330.00 UKP which is $528.81 USD in today's currency market.

If I were to get one from Buydig.com (probably not possible) it would cost me £215.08 which is £40 cheaper than my Axim was! You guys have got it made over there. Everything is so much cheaper it's amazing.

It would probably work out cheaper for me to buy one from the USA, even after local customs charges and VAT!

It might be better (and cheaper) to get a last minute "dirt cheap" flight over the pond (although not by BA, you might never leave the airport) and buy your machine of choice over there!

LOL, BA = Bloody Awful (I'm 6'3" and was squashed into the chicken coup they call seats for an 11 hour flight back from South Africa. The worst ride I have EVER had.

Well I've had my calculaor brain on for most of the morning doing my sums ;)

And this is what we have.

HP iPaq 2210/2215 Delivered to US Address from buydig = $376.95 (£234.07)

Shipping from a US address to UK with only $250 insurance via USPS = $33 approx (£20.49)

UK Customs charges are £0 !!! Classification code = 8470 10 00 00 (I know, I was shocked too)

UK VAT Charged @ £17.5% on total unit price & shipping = £44.55 So....... £254.56 + £44.55 = £299.11

You'd need to buy a UK charger too @ approx £20.00..

Total to buy and ship from USA to UK and have a useable unit = £319.11

Is it just me or is that STILL £10 cheaper? OK OK, so £10 aint much, infact I put that much petrol in my tank every day. The fact is, if you go into a high street shop, you would be looking at £379.99 or more for a 2210 iPaq. It's only through some serious searching have I managed to turn one up at £330. Plus, their stocking system has been showing the units as arriving in 2-3 days for the last week.

Sorry, but it speaks volumes about this country. Bleedin' rip off.

You forgot to mention that the £10 for the petrol that you put in your tank every day here would take you a lot further if you lived in the States.

Not to make you feel any worse, but if you drove a Volkswagen TDI you could go about 570 miles on £10. It's only 380 miles from Frisco to LA.

You succeeded, now zip it! :p

I've succumbed to iPaq envy, I'm ashamed to admit it but I contacted Dell 10 minutes ago to cancel my replacement Ax and get a refund on the one I have.

I know there's an £80 price difference but I've spent that much on Bluetooth cards for it anyway and the iPaq has no problems that I'm aware of.

Sorry folks :(

I thin kit is terrible the problems some of you folks have had with the Dell and/or the Ax.....

but the fact remains...... why are you still "here"? I , for one, would rather that you left and stopped bad-mouthing the PDA we have chosen to stay with.

I understand there are problems.... hell EVERY PDA will have or has problems..... you learn to pick your battles.

Well, I purchased the troublesome Axim based on the comments and feedback on this forum. It is a very valuable resource not only for Axim owners, but owners of Pocket PCs in general.

I don't know why you have an emotional attachment to a device. No one is saying that your Axim is bad... just the ones that we received equipped with WM2003.
