Cool Well...mine works

My Reader is pretty fast, and it works. Its bizarre...the only issue I noticed was that Transcriber would stop working suddenly until a soft reset...but my dad's Axim X5 Advanced/2002 has the same issue...

I have a new, week old Axim Advanced/2003

I use my axim primarily for MS reader, and Palm reader. I found that MS reader takes an extremely long time to load books, but once loaded, it's nice and quick turning pages. It's context menus are very slow, and makes it troublesome trying to add bookmarks, or highlights. If there was a way to disable the context 'popup' menu shadow, I'm sure it will work quite well. Palm reader has no performance problems, and works quite well.

I purchased Diamond Mines from astraware, and it plays nice, however my friend's Palm Zire 71 (144Mhz) with the same game runs 10 times faster which is almost depressing at times. (though, astraware may have better optimizations for the Palm version, one never knows)

Playing something like MameC3 and iMame are almost humors.. I tried Ms-PacMan (my favorite game), and it runs 1/4 speed of the original arcade version. My friend's Palm, with the same game (though different emu) runs at 100% speed, with perfect sound. I did end up purchasing one of Microsoft arcade packs with Ms-PacMan which does run full speed, with perfect sound so I'm not too worried, but I would like to use Mame for some other apps I can not purchase natively on the Axim.

All in all, I'm happy with my Axim as-is because it works, but I am looking forward to the fix, with hopes if solving some of the gaming, and MS Reader speed problems.

Well, to answer the MS Reader issue. I refuse to use software that "REQUIRES" me to register with M$ and let them know everything that I do. They can go straight to...Well, you know. I use iSilo. I can load the entire Harry Potter book 5 and it displays instantly and I can also jump to any part of the book instantly. The file sizes are smaller than .LIT also. It's $17.50, but worth every penny. M$ Reader is SLOW on my 1.5GHz desktop. It's a piece of garbage bloatware from M$. What do you expect?

As for Diamond Mine, I also have that software and it ran fine on my old E-125, so I'm guessing it will get fixed when the ROM update is released.

Every emulator I've ran is 10x faster on my Axim than my old E-125 with sound off. About the same speed with the sound on. Once again, this will prolly get fixed in the ROM update.

Thanks, I'll have to look into iSilo!

I use MS Reader because I purchase all my books from Amazon.ca which come in MS Reader .lit format. I don't mind in regards to registration since I'm an 'honest citizen' when it comes to my e-books.

I have the 5 Harry potter books in Palm reader (.pdb) format. works quite nicely on the Axim. I like the fact that you can invert the background so it's white text on a black background which makes it easier to read at night.

The one thing that I have found that is faster on my new axim compared to my old one is that Pocket SNES is alot faster. Donkey Kong and Megaman X are very playable, even when listening to music in WMP.

I'm getting the slow down issues as well. Intermittant but agrivating. I've been trying to load some maps and I could go tolunch before they load. This doesn't bode well for when I get my GPS up and running!

It's really easy to convert any .LIT to .TXT Just select all and CTRL-C open word/notepad CTRL-V. If you are going to look into iSilo, they have a convertor that can do any text document and HTML called iSiloX for windows. It's just a convertor. Then after you have your .LIT as a text file, open it in iSiloX and convert it. You'll have to read up on all the settings, but it's a great program.

As for legallity, I own all the Potter books in hard copy, plus the 5th book on CDs. I just let someone else waste time scanning it in. I should legally be allowed to have an e-copy on my handheld since I have the ability to make it myself. I have a scanner that came with OCR software, but you never know these days.

Thanks! I think I can export my .pdb books into .txt or .pdf using a Palm for windows converter. My .lit books seems to be locked, and MS Reader does not allow you to copy/paste content which is not surprising. Ahh well, time to start playing I think.

Thanks!
