One thing that I think we should note though is that the late August/September dates are all upper bounds on how long this should take. In my experience, Dell usually tends to give out pessimistic estimates for the time, and then beats them by several days at least.

Also, the dates we are being given are for the update CDs and not the internal patch or ROM update that I would imagine would be made available for download for those people who already have PPC 2003 on their Axims. I would imagine that any such upgrade would come out first, as it is probably being prioritized at this point.

...the only feasible way that could happen is if 1. "saturday" means 12:01am ET, and 2. the patch is being worked on in hawaii and will be released at 6:01pm HST, which is already past the working day....my family lives in hawaii and let me tell you getting people to stay at work past like 4pm on fridays is not easy...:p

Assuming for a second that this patch actually does get released... how do I get it? You see, I've got one of the new 255's with MM2003 already loaded. so I've never had to get a ROM update or apply it.

What's the procedure?

it'd show up on the dell downloads page somewhere....go to the support page then you should see a link to downloads. input your device type etc. and you should see it....

--if it's indeed there tomorrow.

The dell.co.uk site which earlier on today stated that Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Upgrade Kit was out of stock is now showing it in stock and available to order, suggests that the problems may have been ironed out.

Here is another thread on Dell's community discussion board that seems to somewhat bolster this claim. I'm not holding my breath till I see it, but it would be nice to get a fair comparison between the Ax and the 2210 before the ax is returned on Monday.

I have just checked with Dell and they are telling me 21/8 for despatch of my PPC2003 upgrade.

I reckon all the different dates just mean no one know's what the hell is going on, that's Dell for yer!

I often wonder how they managed to produce such a great PDA.
I think beings from out of space helped originally then flew away leaving Dell to handle the distribution.

lol.......well you have to remember, the patch isn't the same thing as the upgrade CD at all. for one thing they don't have to redesign their whole version of the OS in the patch, and they also don't have to then scrap the batch of CDs they already ordered and order a whole new batch of like 20,000 upgrade CDs to be burned by whoever the heck burns them, then shipped to Dell by whoever the heck ships them. all of that could conceivably add a couple weeks or more onto the date that your CD will actually ship.

that said, I really really want to believe the bargain pda article and that B300 guy, but how the heck did he wind up in a conference call anyway? i thought they only have open conference calls when they announce earnings reports, and as far as i know, dell definitely didn't release its 2Q earnings today.

if the conference call was real....it's reassuring to know that this issue got to the top.

I talked to a Dell TechSupport today (friday 7/25) about my Dell DPad issue, they are sending me a new one overnight (monday delivery) and I mentioned will my new AXIM have 2002 or 2003? He said 2003, and I asked if it would be patched from the 2003 issue? he replied, 'I am not sure, but we are releasing the ROM upgrade very soon'.

Very soon being next day?? Or very soon after Christmas??
