Interesting news on Dell's forums (speed issue)

Interesting news going on on the Dell forum http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...essage.id=4745

As this post says (by BLADE 300):
Quote:
I have just been informed that the Axim X5 performance issue has been resolved. The firmware patch for Pocket PC 2003 will be loaded on the suspended systems and they will be shipped out shortly. The lead time on the suspended orders will be around 8 days. New orders will also receive the firmward fix prior to shipment. The lead time for those orders should return to normal shortly.
and later...

Info straight from Dell brass via conference call with big shooters. Download is in the works but variables being worked out. I don't expect this to be a long process based on the number of tech jocks jumping on the offering and are now seeking shelter by bailing out for greener pastures.
This also with the 7/26 thread seems to be some hope for us already WM2003 owners.

awesome. This situation seems to be turning around nicely and dell may once again have a good working product. If that thread is indeed true then dell's early august target seems accurate and the september stuff is bogus.

Heres to hoping

I surely hope that this info is right. I hope that a lot of people don't get their hopes only to be let down again by Dell.

Honestly I 've heard so many stories in the last couple of days, I don't know what to believe anymore.

At this point, everything floating around the web about the issue is just rumors. The only way to know for sure is to wait and see what happens....or to read it in a Dell Press Release.

I really hope this is true and my new unit ships before their new estimate, which is currently August 15th. Question: If it DOES ship on August 15th, which is a friday, would I have it by the 20th? It is very important because I am leaving on the morning of the 21st.

it's possible. what part of the country are you in? i live in the north-western part of VA, (not west virginia), and I find that most of my stuff coming from dell takes only 2-3 days with their regular UPS grounds services.

The September dates quoted by Dell were for the upgrade CDs. I think that it is the ROM patch for those people with the WM2003 units that will be offered by the end of this month. I'm guessing that the CD upgrade from 2002 -> 2003 will probably still be shipping in late August early September. One reason for this, that someone pointed out in another thread, is the fact that Dell may very well need to press an entirely new batch of WM2003 CDs with the updated ROM images. This process could conceivable add a week or two to the ship times for the upgrades. However, I think that even with this delay it is quite possible that Dell may be able to beat their September deadline by a week or two.
