Axim Replacement
I called dell to report the problems that I am having (the most urgent being its habit to spontaniously hard reset). After explaining eveything, the guy told me that a replacement would be shipped in 3-5 days. Knowing the ineptness of customere service, I called again to confirm this. This rep confirmed my replacment. I asked her if it wold be 2002 or 2003. She told me it would be a 'like-for-like' replacment. This doesnt make since because my current unit has the 250 chip which is no longer manufactured, however, I am aware that refurb units are often used as replacements. In an attempt to clarify this I called again the next day. This time the guy told me that my replacement is still in production-meaning still at the factory, but would arive in 3-5 days. So, this is my question-can i know for sure if my replacement will be 2002 or 2003, PXA 250 or 255? If it is 2003, I would assume it would include the new fix...is that reasonable? Has anyone here got a replacement since the 2003 introduction? What do ou think...is there any way that I can know?

I don't think anyone could tell you for sure if you would get a 2002 or 2003 Axim. I had read about people with 250s getting 255 replacements on occasion. So anything is possible I guess.
The one thing that I would be 99.9% sure of though is that if you got a 2003 unit, it would be patched.

are you getting a new replacement or a refurb? has your 30-day satisfaction guarantee passed up yet? if yes, then you will get a refurb, which might have WM2003. if not, then you will get a brand new unit with WM2003, patched.
Im guessing if its a refurb then it will probably have PPC2002, 1) because they have more of those and 2) because if they have WM2003 refurbs they're probably trying to get them patched and they're probably low-priority compared to patching new units.

yes my 30 day drial is up...so that would imply a refurb. that makes me wonder though why the las tguy i talked to sayd that my unit was still in production? Oh well, not like there is anything I can do about it anyway. I only hope that its the 255-that way I can have the doubled bus speed-if they fix it!

"in production" is a catch-all label, I'm sure all it means in your case is that your refurb is being prepped for shipment--gathering all the parts like cradle, etc.
there's probably a very good chance that you'll get a PXA255.

Yup, I got a refurb. Its 2002, rom A02, but with the 255 processor, thats good. The didnt send a bat or any cables or anything-i guess they wanted to save on shipping. Anyway, this should solve the problem, unless its a bad batt-we'll see......

replacement
I had a problem with my axim digitizer malfunctioning. I had to hard reset all the time. I called dell about it.. I received a replacement unit two days ago. My old axim was the 250. I received a 255. It has ppc2002, the same as my old system. I ordered the 2003 cd on 7/4. I check my order status.... as of today I will receive my cd between 8/4 to 8/11. Oh, my 30 days has long expired... but Dell sent a refurbished unit anyway. So far I am extremely satified with my axim. I am looking forward to the upgrade.
