It doesnt take an intelligent person to realise that all the 2002 users who haven't paid for this upgrade are thiefs !

I appologise to anyone who has taken offence by my blasphemy, but what you said before was totally ridiculous !

I wont reply or say anything more on this, Ive made my point and am not willing to start, or enter, into a flame war. You have your opinion and I have mine, I just hope that you get great enjoyment from your upgraded 2002 ppc, as this upgrade wont even install on my 2003 ppc and it was produced for the likes of me !

Slinger,

All things aside, I am genuinely sorry that you had trouble with the upgrade procedure. I hope you get it ironed out.

My AXIM- Advanced 400mhz PP2003 rec'd early July and s-l-o-w.
Is there ANY thread on the site that only covers the experiences of those of us who the patch was designed for?? I keep reading about 'hanging on 1/13' (whatever) and other problems; but I can't sift out if these are occuring on the new, slow PPC2003 Axims, OR if these are troubles associated with trying to manipulate the patch to fit PPC2002.
Does anyone have a handle on how this 'R64365.exe' is functioning overall for those of us who it should rightfully work for?
Thanks,
monnie

Monnie... for those in your boat... for the most part it seems to work, but for several valid upgraders, they have had problems. (The hanging at 1/13 error).

I just wonder what Dell will say to these people who jumped the gun and downloaded and attempted the procedure before it was officially released by Dell, then ran into problems.

Thanks m8, and I appologise for being rather aggresive in my replies towards you, this whole patch-up thing is annoying me cause I cant get it to work.

Monnie, I am one of the 2003 users trying to get this patch to work to no avail, it hangs on installation at the 1st of the 13 files, why, I dont know. The main thing is that I managed to get back to the default 2003 state so I havent buggered anything up in the process, though I have read of a few people who have !

My advice to you is do not bother with this update, wait till Dell either puts the update on its website or wait till they contact you about it, which I have read that they are going to do to every 2003 owner.

I think everyone's running on high emotions (& maybe not enough sleep ;) ) right now with the new A05 ROM starting to trickle out. Please remember that the files on the FTP site were never intended to be an official download for the Axim and as such is a complete risk to anyone who uses the files (including those who have WM2003 A04).

I don't think Dell is too concerned about anyone downloading the files as they have already posted a disclaimer waiving their responsibility for people who use the FTP files.

Slinger, I would be frustrated too if I was in your position. But lets try to stay positive on these forums so everyone can enjoy this great community. Judging others hurts more than it helps.

Ok, where is the patch located on the ftp? I have been looking around, and I didnt read all the threads, but I would like to find it. I only found R61325.exe Is that it? Can someone tell me where to get and give a synopsis of the problems? Thanks, James

When do they think the REAL version will come out. I just hard reset, so I figured now would be a good time as any to apply the patch.

hey XKalibuR - I let it sit for around 5 minutes initially and there was no activity at all - just the Dell screen. I tried a soft reset, then a hard reset (took it out of the cradle to do those.

Unfortunately, the Axim isn't responsive to any input except for a hard reset. It is not recognized in the cradle by Activesync or either of the flash utilities (from A03 or A05).

The only thing I haven't done is to leave it on the Dell screen interminably (longer than 5 minutes or so) to see if it somehow heals itself. :D I'll try that now - then i'll try scattering chicken gizzards around it and sacrifice my kids' Guinea Pig to it. :rolling:

I was hoping that there was a built in rescue facility in an area of rom that would take an image off of a cf card like the ipaqs used to have. I've got a post in the hardware forum about that. If anyone has any ideas, i'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

Oh yeah - it was bad... :rolling:

I had the whole screen go blank, and was even informed that the restore was successful. Next the Axim reset and hung on the Dell screen.

Who says that the "restamped" CDs will contain A05? They may come out with another version before shipping the CD (A06 or A07?) and all those PPC2002->2003 "Hexed edited" people will be kicking themselves for turning their own Axim into a brick of plastic, copper, and silicon, and not WAITING for the FINAL VERSION. If they want to be lemmings, let them be lemmings! If they are going to jump off a cliff for some guy LET THEM!

Once again, just wanted to remind everyone to drop the talk of PPC2002 to WM2003 "upgrades" via this file. We need to keep Aximsite a legitimate site, and not discuss illegal (no matter how you try to justify it) activities. Thanks for the cooperation.

From what I've heard, A05 still has issues. I'm waiting for a final release cd with hopefully A06 or A07 on it. I'd rather have a fully functional ppc 2002 Axim, then a somewhat functional faster ppc 2003 Axim.

Edited: Sorry, but please don't post the link to the file, as it has not officially been released by Dell. Thanks for understanding. --deftech

Does this work? Will this fix the current issues with 2003? I just hear people talking about piracy and whatnot, but I would like to verify that this is the new ROM update for 2003, not 2002. Right?

Thanks,
James
