I've now downloaded the patch and installed it without any problems. It only took about 20 min. to do the whole install. I never had to wait like others have. I've made a benchmarks chart and added the new scores to it along with the iPaq 2215 for comparison. All in all, the upgrade almost doubled the score for the Axim running PPC 2003.
The 2215 is smoking the Axim on the graphics part of the benchmarks, and 7-8% better overall score. The Axim does do better on some individual benchmarks. Wonder what framerate the Ax will get in PocketQuake?
It should be noted at this point that the 2215 is a new PPC designed around the PXA 255 and WM 2003. While the Axim was retrofitted with the PXA 255 and has only now begun to use WM 2003. I think that given these facts, the Axim does very well in those benchmarks.

I think so, too. I also believe that in everyday use there will zero perceptible difference in performance between the two units. Especially since the Ax has a better CPU index.
I'm still curious to know its performance in PocketQuake. For years Quake performance (or one of the sequels) has been a popular benchmark for graphics cards on the PC. It's a good way to get a "tangible" feel for the performance of a device as opposed to the sterile numbers of an artificial benchmark.
Edited: Please do not discuss distribution of the patch for the moment. The only place to legally obtain a copy is directly from Dell, and it has been pulled from Dell's site. Any other source for the update is not a legal source, so please do not discuss it on Aximsite. Thanks for understanding. --deftech
