Why did the 2003 upgrade fail, poll to find a pattern.
While looking at the posts, I'm inclined to believe that most Axim X5 basic are doing the update all right. Maybe the Advanced are the ones that are giving problems. Of course, this conclussion can be false, but that's why I'm doing this poll.
This poll is only for current A04 users upgrading to A05.
Edit: just by looking at the results comming in, seems that my conclussions was not right, but still is good to know ;)
The poll has been edited to list only the models that pertain to legitimate WM2003 Axim users.

A question for those who had update failures - did you do the following proceedure:
1. Back up everything to your PC
2. Remove all SD/CF cards
3. Hard Reset
4. Perform update
Apparently the hard reset is really important as it puts the machine back to it's delivery configuration, with US settings and only pre-installed software.
Originally posted by dan12 I was unsure if there was a legitimate posibility of a X5 with the PXA250, but I guess all are PXA255, so that's ok.
Thanks for understanding, dan. Just trying to get everything back on track in the WM2003 forum. :)

My update was successful, but I left my SD card in there the whole time.
- (ROM) Backup was automatic via installer
- Hard reset was automatic via installer, did NOT tap screen when prompted the first time, actual update followed.
- Made backup file before running installer.
- Did not do anything on my computer except move the mouse a few times. Did not attempt to move the installation window.

Though I don't have an Axim with WM 2003 installed, I would like to see all of those people with the "1/13" glitch getting the situation resolved. I seriously think that there has to be some sort of pattern here, something you all have in common either on your Axims or on your PCs that is causing this problem. As I said before, it could be something in software, like a virus scanner, or something in hardware like your computers' particular USB ports.

I've only had me new Axim a few weeks, so excuse the lame question.
Would you mind telling me how to do step#1? (My back-up under my axim programs menu only allows me to back up to built in storage).

Thanks,

the installer program for A05 will do everything for you.
I did all of the steps listed above and it still didn't work
Hung at 1/13 screen like everyone else that had a problem.
Dell just released a bogus patch, that's pretty much the answer to that question. I'm sending my Axim back under the 30 day guarantee and get my money back.
Well, I tried it and it worked! It seems much faster. The only hitch I had was using ActiveSync the first time after it updated. I had to set up a new 'partnership'. The updater program could have been written more clearly for some of us. But, thanks to this forum, I muddled through.
And then, I log on and go back to Aximsite, eager to announce my success! Only to find the patch has been removed at Dell.
The instructions (index.html) clearly states that after the patch and reset, connects the Axim to your computer, when the New Partnership window appears, select Guest Partnership!
Then you can do your restore, after restore, everything will be back to normal....
If you got it to work can you please list your configuration of your AXIM and your computer. Including what kind of sync cable. and basically exactly what you did (Im talking about the legitimate update).
