Not to give Dell any ideas but, I am thakfull I didnt upgraded...

I am the kind of person that would have done the upgrade, but I didnt, specially since I feel taken advantage of by Dell who should first and foremost done enough R&D like they like to brag about in their ads. I mean really its what? 4 configurations of the Ax and they have problems with the OS?? pathetic, there should have never been the need since there should have never been a problem taken in acount so few configurations of the system...

anyway...

This is my thoughts... what would happen if Dell now decides to block all future upgrades so they wont upgrade if you are using the version of WM2K3 from that patch?? what will those people that upgraded do?

I don't think they can do that. First of all - it was posted on the official support download site I think for some time before being taken down. What about people who downloaded it then? Or for the poeple who the patch was meant for (users with axims that shipped with faulty 2003 os)?

True but then again how many actual 2003 users were able to upgrade without the 1/13 hang? 4?

One glaringly obvious reason that Dell won't block anyone from upgrading from A05 is that the only ones that it would cause problems for would be the A04 upgraders who were sucessful but didn't make a backup of their ROM before proceeding. PPC2002 users that used the hacked file to upgrade needed to make a backup before they could hack the upgrade file.

Also, Dell would not cut OS upgrades because it would greatly reduce their competitiveness. One of the reasons I got the Axim was for its options and upgradability (CF & SD, removable battery). These ideas are now catching on with the competition, so Dell must keep up. Besides, right or wrong , the number of people who hacked the update is going to be incredibly miniscule.

Someone in another thread mentioned a suit by MS against Dell. I say get your head out of your a@@. The lawyer fees alone would be more than the possible loss MS incurs at under $10US per license. On top of that, Dell can not be held liable for someone working around a security measure. Hell, MS can't even keep everyone from hacking their own systems.

Just my little rant and $0.02.

I think I remember reading that some people received new Axims with A05 installed. Anyone else read that?
