How do I load PPC2002?

I work at the ITS Help Desk at a university and we got a batch of bad axims. They have the version 4.20.1081 and are very slow and networking is hard to configure. I was planning on updating them all today until Dell pulled the link. I got my balls in a vise now and they just have to be working, faculty doesn't care what OS is on them and neither does my boss. I have one of the first axims, got in Nov. and was wondering if I could get my OS off mine and install it on the new ones for the time being. Is it possible to reformat or image the axim back to PPC2002? Any help would be appreciated. Mike

There is a way, but it is untested for a downgrade and also skirts the legality issue. And, I wouldn't advise publicly seeking on the boards. We need to keep this great site clean for Chris.

Yes, it is illegal to do this, because you legally only have a license to use Windows Mobile 2003 OS. Hang in there for a bit longer, as Dell will re-release the update (to only those who qualify for it), and it should fix your problems.

Also, the reason you cannot put PPC2002 on it is because you do not own a license for it. Just like if you own Windows XP on your desktops, and wanted to downgrade to Windows 2000.....you'd have to go out and buy licenses for Windows 2000 as well. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a way for you to buy a PPC2002 license for an Axim.....might contact Dell about it if you are dead-set to do this.

@deftech: about the w2k/xp thing: If you have a corporate volume license, your XP license may actually allow the use of W2K instead (but you have to make up your mind... one license = use either W2K or XP on one machine).

Yes, but that's a whole different story. Individuals (and even many companies for that matter) do not have corporate volume licenses.
