Exclamation Poll - A04 to A05 Failure by Ship Date

My Axim 400 was one of the first to ship with 2003 and it just won't update to A05 no matter how I do it (12 variations of PCs, usbs, OS's, batteries, cables, etc.). I wonder if Dell had some slightly different components (common for manufacturers) in batches of boards that prevent rom updates. It just feels like a timing problem to me.

Maybe it corresponds to actual Dell ship date (not received date). Let's see...

Please respond to the following:

1. Success or Failure
2. Axim Advanced or Basic
3. Actual DELL Ship Date (NOT the date you received it)

Mine:
1. Failure
2. Advanced
3. 7/03/03

Thanks,

ST

I'm not so sure. Computer (and most other electronic) manufacturers frequently change chips that are in "spec" without going through a formal revision process. Price, availabilty and delivery drive it. I am intersted in these more informal changes that happen all the time.

There is a reason for this problem.

mine shipped in early july. i'll have to get the exact date from my boss since my company bought it. if i had paid for it i would've returned it already -- plus i need to wait for linksys to finish wm2003 drivers anyway. maybe the rumor about a fixed patch next week is true... i'm not holding my breath.

My unit also shipped in early July. I did have to try a couple of times to get it updated but finally did. I did have to shut off the Firewall, and anti-virus software on my computer to finally get it to load properly, but still had the firewall on my router. Again, it did take a couple of times to get it to do so, first time, would not get past the backing up of ROM. I stopped the process, rebooted the computer, and then disabled the firewall and anti-virus, and attempted again and it went through. Was plugged into a USB 2.0 port on my system, not sure if that made a difference or not, but seems to be working fine now. Didn't realize how slow the unit was with the A04 ROM

1. Succesful
2. Basic
3. 7 July 2003

I think this is also an important point, or probably there were two A04 revisions, and one of them went silently.
