Now wait a minute... that post has been on Dell's site since 06-07-2003!!!

That gave them plenty of time to delete it. What gives?

BTW: There is an easier way than what is posted there.

Those are not offical instructions. But that is different than going the other way.

So, can I post how to go from WM2003 to PPC2002 and not be in violation of forum rules? If so, let me know and I will make a thread!

I would think that would be OK because the user would already have PPC 2002 right? Unless there is some sort of twisted EULA that says when you install 2003, you give up rights to 2002, I would think it would be OK.

I can't wait until someone brings this thread up in a couple weeks when we find out that its not OK. But for now I say go for it. That way we will all know who the pirates are right? ;)

james, have you catched the virus, too?

I got a lot of flak from the "by the letter" people since I have upgraded without having the license certificate (actually, it's a small sticker that was on my companion CD). The same way, owners of a WM2k3 equipped Axim (who have not upgraded) only have such a certificate for WM2k3. So, while it may be morally justifyable because they got damaged goods in a way, they're just as much without a license as I am. I have my doubts that the new EULA gives you the right to use another OS unless you've paid for it.
It is therefore highly surprising that even Dell doesn't seem to mind (and this just gave me an idea for an upgrade without hex editing;). By the same logic, I could downgrade my WinXP to WinME (never got a license for that because it's so crappy), without having to pay for a WinME license and I doubt MS would like to see that.
As I said, I don't mind people downgrading if they have a screwed up Axim and I think while they have no legal grouds, they at least have moral ones, but if those who have paid for a license are being called dirty pirates, and those who downgrade without having a license for the OS they're downgrading too, it's applying a different standard.

You can downgrade ms licenses. I work in a coporate IT company and we buy xp licenses but in 2k on the boxes. Why because we currently prefer 2k to xp and that way we are covered when we do decide to go with xp.

joker: that's different. Those are corporate volume licenses where the downgrade right is part of the license. I very much doubt that the wm2k3 eula mentions anything about a downgrade.

Very true. This is a consumer license and it won't have a downgrade option. Where are you going to get the OS anyway?

What we all need is a dual boot PPC 2K3 & 2K2, now that would be best.

For goodness sake don't even ask that question. It started a particularly unpopular / nasty discussion. Lets jsut say that 'Even a blind hog will find an acorn occassionaly". Meaning that even Dell will admit that some times outsdie intervention is required.
