Wireless and Modem Drivers in 2003

Like many of my fellow Aximsite members, I have had my Dell version of PocketPC 2003 on order since the first day it was offered.

My main concern, now that I have had time to consider it, is if my wireless card and CF Modem card drivers will work with 2003? Both pieces of hardware and drivers worked with no problem under 2002. Will 2003 be that much different, such that I should expect that they will not work with the present drivers???

If this is going to be a headache, especially with the CF Wireless Card, I might just stick with 2002......

What type of CF Wireless card do you have? Wireless networking is one of the bigger changes to Windows Mobile 2003 from what I have read and seen.

It's kind of a generic one sold under several labels: XI-825. I originally purchased it for a Casio BE-300 that I gave to my son when I purchased the Axim. It worked (works) well in both units......

Right now it seems only one wifi card is Windows 2003 Mobile compliant, and it's the Socket WiFi ($99 price tag). I don't know of any other manufacture supporting their cards under 2003 as of now. Linksys and DLink promise drivers by mid August.

Ambicom has posted "PPC2003" 802.11b drivers for its CF card unit here .

You need to check out the Wireless Communications forum. There is a thread devoted to this very topic.

The D-Link wireless card works fine with the 2K2 drivers :)
I am still waiting for an update on the SMC drivers, though.

Here is the reply I received on the XI-825 CF Card.....

We have a driver but not a utility. The utility will be released in
about 1 month.

as you can see from the replies here there are more cards. Dell released 2003 drivers for their TM card the day they released the 2003 axims and I even managed to get my WCF12 card working on 2003 without having any 2003 drivers. The situation is still not perfect but we're getting there. If you have hardware without the appropriate drivers you might want to hold off the upgrade or sell your hardware and get devices that already support 2003.
