RUN Command

Found the info in ' iPaq General Forums > Tips & Tricks / Another undocumented trick! '

It works fine but it seems to be possible only with programs located in the Windows folder. Is this the case or am I doing something wrong?

Intriguing. That seems logical because whenever you run the RUN command in windows and don't specify a full path then it uses its default assigned path to search for the executable. Honestly I have not seen a PATH variable defined on the PPCs which makes it intriguing. I am assuming that Microsoft probably hard coded that option to only look in the \Windows folder since it is the one constant between all devices.

Certainly, I couldn't make it work by typing the full pathname in, so it seems likely that the hard coding is the issue. What did seem to work, (I think), was to create a shortcut to a program in 'Program Files' and place the shortcut in \Windows.

I need to investigate more.

Just why I'm not sure, but the challenge is there, and who can resist a challenge?

Exactly! That's the spirit!

I am going to look into this as well but I am not sure when I can get around to it. If you find anything please post.

There's no real trick. I posted how to do it in the original thread.

Steve

P.S. You know, when you mention another thread, it would be nice to save people work from having to search for it by providing a real link. I was going to say "I posted how to do it somewhere on the board," but decided to be nice.

P.P.S. Actually, now that I think about it, I would have just posted this question there. Yeah, it's an old thread, but you obviously found it. The New Posts Quick Link would have made it easy for other people to find, too.

P.P.P.S. Don't you hate P.S.s that are longer than the post itself?

Here's a freebie that's supposed to emulate the dosshell. (Never tried it)
