SMTP Authentication in Windows Mobile 2003
Hi,
I'm a new member and this may or may not be the correct forum. None the less, here goes. I am trying to congure Pocket Inbox to use SMTP authentication. My ISP requires outgoing authentication when sending email from a connection other than their connections. I am working on this on my home network so that when I travel I'll have it set. As is, I am running the most recent ROM. Specifically, I wanted and am running WPA on my home wireless. This is working. My ISP provides two outgoing options. One for authorization and one standard. I can get the standard version to work on my home network (not surprising). However, when trying to configure the smtpauth connection. I get error messages indicating certificates are not valid. My base question: Does Windows Mobile 2003 inbox support smtp authentication? I assumed it did since one of the settings allows a check mark for activation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone can suggest a stronger email clent, that too would be useful information.

SMTP authentication is supported on the PPCs. However the procedure can differ between ISPs.
I believe there is another email client called nPOP. I have not tried it but some people seem to like it over the basic pocket inbox. You can download it from here.

Thanks
It was a help to know that someone had been successful with smtp authentication. I kept at it. I only made one change which I thought was subtle, but it made the difference.
In the accounts setup area, I clicked on the address tab. I disabled the checkbox for the account which was verifying names with an online address book. I'm not sure this was the actual fix, but it is the only change I remember making.

User/passwort for SMTP must be equal to the settings for POP.
